I've just upgraded to 4.4.22 and I'm copying some of my DVDs to a media server. For movie titles I use Recode to simply strip off the menus and special features, leaving the main title as a DVD structure, full size, no compression. I rip the original disk using AnyDVD

I've been doing this for a while and it seems to have worked fine for lots of disks. But I noticed recently that main movie copies are now jerky. Audio is fine, but the video seems to stutter, and then catch up with itself repeatedly through the film. As the copies are on a server I've been able to try and play them back on different machines, using different software, and I've eliminated the usual suspects like hardware acceleration. Checking out the results at various stages, I can only conclude that it's Recode that is causing the problem and that it has only started recently.

    i.e.

Old recode "main movie" copies of other disks play OK
The original DVD disks play OK
The full disk ripped copy of the DVDs play OK

A hard disk "main movie" copy of the movie has the problem
A DVD-R copy of the main movie produced directly by Recode has the same problem.

So far I've seen the problem on two titles (the last 2!), one recent, the other a year old.

Reading the previous thread, the frame rate on both the ripped copy and the recode version is 25fps.

I'm running XP Home, fully up to date, PowerDVD 6, and have also tried the files on Vista, PowerDVD 9 and JRMC.

Any ideas? and how do I go back to an earlier version?

Just a bit more info, the "main movie" copy is significantly smaller than the relevant sections of the ripped copy of the whole DVD, about 20% at a rough guess.

The size reduction is probably just the removal of additional audio streams. I've re-run the burn to the same hard disk as the dvd rip is on, just to finally eliminate any naagging worries that it may be hardware related. Still the same problem. Log file is blow, but I can't see anything unusual

Just for information there is a problem with Nero Recode latest version update that came out in June. Many people are having problems with playback and pixelation...which looks like fireworks to me. Nero is aware of the problem and is supposed to correct it in the next update, hmm. Anyway here is an answer listed from a Nero Employee in the Nero Forum on the problem, if you want to use the workaround, which IMHO involves a lot, but here it is for what it is worth. Otherwise you got to wait for next update to correct the problems.

Thanks for this, it's a lot of effort for the workaround, especially given the length of time it takes to install Nero these days.....

If I'm desperate, I've got an old copy of Nreo 6 on my server that I can use.

    I'll wait

Use DVD Shrink. As long as no compression is used it will work fine.
