Hi all. Tried several programmes to convert avi files. Some turn out perfect but most leave a 'stepping' effect, as though some frames are missing? Is this just to be expected, I heard this was a problem a few years ago but I thought it had been sorted. Is it me, is it the quality in the first place? Playing the avi files on the computer is fine but once they have been converted I can see the stuttering when I preview the vid before burning. Tried the lowest speed but to no avail. I can back up DVD's without a problem it seems to be something that happens during conversion. Any clues?? Cheers.
Hi, You will often see this when converting from PAL to NTSC. Frames are duplicated, or some are removed, using PullDown method (ConvertXtoDVD uses PullDown and Frame Duplication methods). I aint a video guru, just now some people with a good eye might see a little flicker, a small jerkiness. Is this the case here ? Pal to NTSC or NTSC to PAL, changing the framerate...
Hi cougar, thanks for the reply. Could very well be. I have been trying different things, last night I burnt a avi of a 911 conspiracy documentary using Nero. It told me that my settings were at PAL but most of the files were in NTSC, did I want to burn it in NTSC? I thought i'd give it a try not expecting it to play on my PAL (UK) t.v. but it did and it seemed fine. I don't understand that bit, I didn't think the two were compatible? If the framerate (converting from one to the other) is the problem, can this be overcome or do I just have to live with it? I am a bit over sensetive in that department, noone else in the house notices it until I say something so i don't watch them, it spoils the movie. Any more help much appreciated.
