Recently upgraded my System to M7NCD Biostar mobo with 512MB PC3200 DDR Ram and Baton(AMD)2500+ Processor and Leadtek nVidia 5200 128mb graphics card-- had to reinstall OS. Now ALL dvd playback programs I use-- Intervideo, Power DVD etc. have "jerky" playback. The "jerks' are consistently timed at about 1 per second. I've tried reinstalling IDE drivers, updated the firmware on the DVD drive (Liteon) reinstalled ASPI Layer, etc. etc.etc.-- Not a real big deal, but the old mobo and 1.2 AMD w/64 Meg 4400MX played everything just fine. Please.... a little guidance would be appreciated.
I think you have a PIO/DMA issue. To Check for DMA: (1) Control Panel, (2) System, (3) Goto the Hardware Tab, (4) Device Manager, (5) IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers, (6) Right Click on Primary IDE Channel --> Properties, (7) Goto the Advanced Settings Tab, Make sure both drop down boxes say 'DMA if Available', Click OK, (8) Right Click on Seconady IDE Channel --> Properties, (9) Goto the Advanced Settings Tab, Make sure both drop down boxes say 'DMA if Available', Click OK, (10) Reboot.
Thanks for the tip.But.....the mobo has nVidia chipset and the IDE Driver is nVidia SPP/IGP and by default has the DVD drive set to Ultra DMA 2- Ultra 33. I think it must be some sort of timing issue-- the "jerks" are very regular about 1 per second. The video stops then continues-- no lost frames. So very wierd. Thanks again, and if you have any other hints-I welcome them all.
what about jerky playback in other than DVD movies, very rare but a few movies I have have this problem, namely kill bill, using videolan solves the problem but any other player has them.
I had the same problem and found that on startup it would load up som nvida drivers (I have no idea what they do). I went into my startup (i use win98 which is 'msconfig') and turned them off. It fixed the problem....also make sure you have DMA on for your cd/dvd roms...
interesting problem that i can relate to... But it has happened to me out of nowhere (apparently) If I attempt to watch a DVD from my DVD drive on my computer, it "glitches" alot; the sound is f'ed up, and frames seem jumpy. So I thought I just needed a drive cleaner (or lens cleaner). But everything else I play in the drive (.avi files, downloads, audio CDs) works fine , so that is clearly not the problem. Prior to this problem, I installed Norton System Works, and I did alot of self-cleaning, as in where if I don't think it belongs, out you go. Possibly I deleted something important. If you figure out the problem, please PM me.
I uninstalled all filters and codecs, reinstalled them all in order, now everything is fine, even movies that would only play in videolan now play well in every medium, unfortunatly I lost the ability to play soem mpg, mpeg and some wmv files using my player (MV2 player) and they only play in WMP. (someone installed WMP codec 9 while I was away and I didnt feel like reinstalling windows to fix the problem)
I'm new to all this. I am using Nero 6 Trial and DVD Shrink 2.3. Everything has copied fine however on playback it will play fine to start with and then every now and then it will freeze or stagger. DMA is set properly. Is it the quality of disc? I am using - Packard Bell DVD-R. Any help would be appreciated!! Marlboro - how do you uninstall codecs and filter?
