I've finally taken the plunge & built my first HTPC ... here's what's in it:

    Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.0 Ghz
    4 GB ram
    Intel on board raid
    2 x Seagate 1TB mirror (raid 1) for OS/Software
    4 x Seagate 1TB Raid 5 (3GB usable)
    NVidia GeForce 9500GT
    WinXP fully patched

I'm playing back on my 50" Pana plasma using the VGA port (no DVI port)

I've got everything working except video playback gets weird. Movies play back ok (using VLC) but every few minutes it gets jerky, more like it is playing at a lower frame rate. It isn't getting stuck - its more like its at 20fps - stays like that 2-20 seconds, and goes back to normal

I thought it might be the hard drive, but it also happens playing back from DVD

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I've tried the latest drivers to no avail. I've uninstalled and reinstalled various apps. I'm still seeing very jittery picture video.

It is particularly noticable when the scene is panning.

I'm running at 1280x768 on a Panasonic Plasma. Nothing too high. The processor is a 3Ghz Core 2 Duo, no lack of horse power.

Any other suggestions? I don't want to go buy another video card, and I'm not sure that would even be the solution ...

    Any other thoughts?

    Thanks
