    Hi all,
I have downloaded a series of the net which was on tv a couple of years ago.

    All the files are XVID.AVI

All the episodes have been split into 2 (so the comercials are not on) . I have tried using virtualdub to join the 2 files , but when its joined the 2nd half goes out of sync

Both parts have exactly the same frame rate etc so why does the 2nd part go out of sync??

    thanks in advance

Do they use VBR mp3 audio?
Another issue is when the audio and video streams are not the same length. Sync will be fine as individual files, but maybe off when joined.
    eg.

    VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV
    ...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Audio is set with a delay to start late and match the video. This delay may be lost when joining.

    VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV
    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Audio stream runs longer than the video. Makes no difference as a single file, but when joined if it is the first part, the audio in the second will run late.

    VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV
    AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Audio in first part is shorter than video. As a single file you simply get some silence at the end. When joined the second parts audio will play early.
