I have an xbox that is jtaggable. I read several tutorials followed the instructions to 1 of them although i've only used xbreboot and now the xbox is saying its 8995 dash i think.
Anyway I tried to get xexmenu onto the hardrive I wanted to use and everytime I follow the simple tutorial I found xexmenu is never in the games and demo section. If I go to memory in the xbox settings, then demos I find the file but its corrupted.
I'm coping the c0de9999 file from the disk to hdd1/content/0000000000000000/ folder.

After doing a bit more reading some people suggested downloading another copy of xexmenu, which I did and the same thing happens.
The other thing I read is that it corrupts if the console isn't Jtagged.
As this is my first attempt at jtagging I'm not 100% everything is correct even though I followed the guide. This one, http://www.elitemodscene.com/index.php/topic/278-how-to-homebrewjtag-your-xbox-360/
I think it is correct as I needed the cpu key and managed to get that by using a wired controller plugged into the rear usb port and starting the xbox with the middle button bringing up xell I believe and my cpu number.

Anyway thats the history of what i've been doing my questions are

1:- how can I get xexmenu to load to the hardrive without corrupting. Am I doing something wrong? Is my xbox missing something? I didnt flash the config bin. Do I need to do that?

2:- Do I need xexmenu to update to freeboot 04 which is where I ultimately Want to be at with the latest dash or can I do it a different way?

Sorry if these questions have been answered elsewhere but I've been doing loads of reading on it all and my brain has turned to mush trying to get my head round everthing I've been reading. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be very much appreaciated

Oh Yeah the chipset is xenon on a 2006 xbox.

Well 8955 is not freeboot, so go back. Your dash should be 12611 if you're using the current freeboot image.

I did 3 nand dumps. numbers 2 and 3 matched so I used number 2. my dash is only 8955 but I want to get to the kinect dash but thought I needed xexmenu before I could achieve that goal.

who told you that? xexmenu has nothing to do with it. Just flash xell and get the cpu key. Then you can create the freeboot image for kinect.
