1.) Try to dump the firmware of your drive. If it doesn't work, then you can bother with the VIA uninstall stuff. If it does work, then don't worry about it.
2.) Anywhere you want to save them is fine -- just remember to put them somewhere safe where they can't be overwritten! Sometimes people get the dump of their firmware, then write a new firmware without their original key (which is fine on it's own because you can just reflash), but then redump their firmware again and overwrite their original files... and now their key is lost forever. Don't be one of those people.
3.) I believe it does autoload the firmware once you have dumped your current firmware. If not, it's simple to do. Just click the 'target' button, navigate to your iXtreme directory, and click the file. Easy breezy.
4.) If you haven't closed JF since you began flashing, the file will already be in the source area, along with your key. Then you 'spoof source to target' and your key will show up in the target firmware dialog box as well. Once that happens, you are free to flash. If you have closed JF since you began flashing, you just need to reload your source bin file into the source area of the program. Not difficult.

@Demi7 -- the spear is not optional if you have a non-new Lite-On. The CK3 kit thingy is always optional.

Unnecessary. Although it might provide some benefit if you were to accidentally reverse your power connector. I would recommend just being careful about the power connector, though.

So I tried to flash mine last night and I messed up. During the key extraction the xtractor power dongle got loose and reseated and I think I blew the laser. I was able to extract the same key 2x so I think I am ok ot there, but after extracting the key i tried hooking it up to my 360 before going any further. It sees the drive but keeps saying open tray after I insert a dvd or game. Please help

Okay, well if you got the same key twice, then you are golden. Save that file somewhere very safe. No matter what happens, since you have that file, you are safe.

It is possible that you fried the drive when you seated the power connector wrong.

If it won't read DVDs or games, that is a bad sign. However, you might want to try to give flashing a go anyway and see what happens. It will be a practice run if nothing else.

If all else fails and the drive is knackered, you can order a replacement Lite-On for literally $30 shipped from that one online auction site. Not that I would know from experience or anything!

One more question when i get the new liteon I will not need to actually open the dvd drive as I will not need to extract a key from it correct. I will just need to set it to vendor mode load goto the firmware tool tab load my bin from the old drive and load the liteon firmware (repack version) as source... spoof source to target then continue with the flashing?

Once more quesdtion as I have seen some different answers posted. Should I set the drive to the half open state prior to opening jungleflasher. Or should I have the drive on, open Jungleflasher and set the drive to half open status while Jungleflasher is open

It doesn't matter as long as you set it to half open before you attempt any operations on it. Wouldn't hurt to do it before opening the program, however.

    last 2 questions

    1. When on the MTKFLASH32 tab and when erasing if I do not get the good status do I simply click the erase button again and try flipping the power on/off again during the step where it asks you to

    2. After flash is complete and I after I click outro should I manually close the 360 tray before shutting it down of use the power dongle to close

Leerage, can you please tell me if you removed the ribbon before flashing your Lite-on? The mod on ixtreme's forum who wrote his stock 74850 liteon guide said it's a good precaution to avoid bricking the laser. Have you flashed many lite on's without removing? I read mixed reviews and it's hard for me to decide.

I just wanted to say thanks for writing this tut. This was my first time flashing a lite on drive and I got it done in about 15 minutes with this. Once again thanks for helping out the newcomers like me.

I know it may not mean much coming from a newbie but I flashed mine without disconnecting the ribbon and everything turned out ok. Maybe its just in case you slip with the probe and accidentally hit another connector.

Hi i keep getting a dvdkey32 warning serial data is bad.

probe is green in the 707 showing good connection, im using the pro kit with usb, tried com 1 and 2 in jungleflasher and both give the same result

i have the usb to serial driver installed, will using the serial cable instead fix this issue?

I extracted the key and spoofed a benq, it works fine, but keep getting error messages regarding the mtk flash 32 part on JF, when I do the liteon erase i manage to get the drive into vendor mode, but in the flash chip properties it comes up with unknown type for the drive name. The Vendor id and Device id both say 0x80. the size is n/a and type is Serial flash with status 0x72, wont let me write or do anything in the flashing tasks. It is completely erased. How do I fix this?

Nevermind, being a tit. Just had to click Intro/Device ID and power cycle my drive. Got it now.
