Try the Lite-ON erase again. Once you see the dots go across, unplug the DVD drives power cable for 1 second and then plug it back in. Should get staus (0x72).

If you have the DVDkey, then you need to go ahead and flash the firmware.

You just need to re-intro the drive. Hook it back up to the same SATA port and click Intro/ Device ID. I'm assuming the erase did not go well?

    hi Leerage

just to say a big thanks for this tut, done my 1st 83850C for a mate and it went ok :) was a little worried when i saw the manufacture date of july this year, but all panned out fine. The only hiccup i did have was trying to cycle / half open the drive after clicking 'ok' on the txt boxes - doh what a plank !!!! and kept getting bad returns lol when i actually thought about it and done it properly it was fine.

big thanks again to you :)

So mine is an august 2009 83850c am i screwed ??? I get no reaction when i try to dump the key just keep getting 000000's in my log where most people have info on thier drive. Then it says 803info key extraction failed or something to that effect . Does this mean that this particular drive isnt gonna be able to be flashed or do i have other options i can look into for this drive revision?

    hi cb9983

I'm not sure if you have the newer version DVD drive or not but i had the same issue with the july 09 model i was flashing, basically i was trying to get the drive into its half open state after clicking 'ok' like you do when you power on/off quickly whilst erasing / writing the fw to get a good return code. When i re-read the guides and followed the 'eject, power off, push tray half in and power on' then press 'ok' i got a good return and carried on...

You are going to have to wait. At the moment, the August 2009 Lite-ONs on up can not be dumped. Microsoft/Lite-ON has changed either changed the key location or a different encryption. The firmware team is already working on this. I'm optimistic that it will be cracked; it just takes time. If there is any new about the August 2009 drives, I'm sure it will be posted here.

Thx for the reply guys. Man its disheartening its been sooo easy up till this point . I have heard that around 50 percent of the august 09 drives or later can be flashed but the only way to tell is to give it a try in jf , the guy at jungleflashers irc chat told me as much . Im bummed out now but thx for the help.

Hi all, been reading up on the 83850C issue and believe mine may be the unflashable version. Any tips?

    LOT NO: 00928X
    TEAM:CSON
    MFR Date: July 17th, 2009

    JF 0.1.66B Drive properties.
    Vendor: PLDS
    Name: DG-16D2S
    F/W Rev: 8385
    Reserved: 0CA0A2D609CG92781200

    1) Chose "LO83info" in JF 1.66B
    2) Opened drive, then close it about 7/10th of the way.
    3) Turned off drive power, waited 10 seconds, turned on drive power. Waited another 10 seconds.
    4) Chose OK to get pass the (screen about powering up with drive half open).
Screen requesting the drive to be in full open position comes up.
    5) Press eject button to close the drive, and then again to open it fully. Waited 10 seconds.
    6) Chose OK and getting error. This is happening regardless if I have "Dummy.bin Only" checked or not.

If you are getting the "In Dedication" string, you should be able to dump the key.

What type of SATA chipset are you using?
