i went to Target today and bought a case of Sony blank CD-R's. But it says MUSIC under the letters CD-R (it dosent say data or anything else, just MUSIC).

So my question is are these blank cds just as good for burning data..because im making a backup disk for my new laptop?

The discs you bought are identical to the data discs except for a bit code in the ATIP section of the disc that allows them to be recorded on a stereo audio recorder. Only music discs can be recorded on these devices. Music or data CD-Rs work equally well on computer drives.
