I was feeling a little adventurous tonight, so I thought I'd try flashing my Starview box with the latest firmware. So I downloaded the loader, downloaded what I thought was the right version for my box and gave it a whirl. The instructions worked beautifully....got the 'downloading' blue bar, got to 100%, then the box rebooted itself. It was at this point, dear reader, it all went bad. When I reconnected the TV all I got was a screen which gave 'The Box' logo....and thats it. The remote control now has absolutely no effect, it just sits there and shows nothing but that logo. I think my box is now a brick. Before I started the flash process on looking at the system information screen it said this: API ver 4.00e-E Boot ver 7.0 7 Jun 2007 I thought I bought 'The Box'....though to be honest the various incarnations of Starview are so much gobbledegook to me. I've studied various clone guides, but none of them quite fit...I thought I might have a 1st generation Starview.....then when I looked at the firmware versions, none of them mentioned API ver 4.00e-E. Then I looked at The Box, and Lo and Behold, that mentions 4.00e-E, and has a date of 20070607....which fits. So I thought I must have The Box. I downloaded this one: 4.51 firmw@re for THE B0X UK and flashed it to my box. And now I have a brick, which displays 'The Box' logo and does nothing else. I can't reflash it....The loader doesn't recognise the Starview box at all now. Does anyone know how to get out of this?
yes u should try and get it back on front panel it says starview-thebox-box super all three are non compatible. original starview 1 use gtrom loader vers 4 and bin file vers4.000ee,connect up as usual power off box----then switch it on and hit download ,might take a number of times to do. if ur box is a clone use vers 257ee fixed it will also work on genuine boxes. dont worry u are not the first or last to brick ur box
You will need version Cryptstar - V1.4 genuine only firmw@re for GENUINES found in "Starvi*w" firmw@re folder. If you have a Bad Flash with software have a Read of This might help If you have a bad flash, switch it off then on at the back & make sure its on standby. Then Flash as normal. This also applies to flashing (up & downloading) the channel data file. If for some reason you cannot flash and have set and checked everything else such as ports and connections, then you should switch off at the back wait a moment then on again. Then try to flash again. If for some reason it won't go into standby and you see a constant moving green line. you may want to wait to see if it goes into standby or switches on eventually or re-flash from this state though it may not work. Some users have reported that flashing an older firmware 1st that was working, then trying again may help. If your flash has failed or corrupted try again but 1st flash back the firmware that was on before your failed flash. Re download the firmware just in case you had a corrupted file then try again. If you do flash from the moving green line state at boot, you will see the % increase on the GTRom loader software but not on the Starvi*w. Toward the end of the flash you'll see a Flash Burning message in GTRom. Make sure you wait until all is finished and you see the Download complete pop up message in GTRom. Another method you can use to recover from a bad flash, eg. the box won't boot to standby and is stuck in pre standby, either after about 3 or 4 moving green lines the box sticks with the green line not moving at all or it keeps moving forever. If the box will NOT RE-FLASH as normal from on or standby, try this but it may take a few goes to work. Connect the box to the pc with your cable but switch it off at the back. Load the correct firmware bin file into GTRom & set it to the correct com port, and select App file only then hit Download. Only then switch on at the back to power on the box. It may take a few sec. so wait at least 30 sec. (If it doesn't work 1st time try also waiting a couple of sec. to switch on after pressing download in the loader.) It may take more than 1 try to work, but eventually you'll see the loader kick in and the % bar increase. You won't see the % on the Starview though. Only green lines moving left to right. Towards the end of the flash you'll see a message in GTRom saying FLASH BURNING. Then it will reach 100% and wait for the download complete pop up box to appear & the box will reboot back to factory setup. You will have lost any channel data previously on the box & will need to rescan & switch on EMU and set the box up from scratch. If you don't know the state of the box switch it on see what happens see if there already has been a channel scan done before-meaning there are channels on it working or not. If so tune to an unencrypted channel as above then standby then re-flash.
Got my box back up and working using the method stated by both Cactikid and Celtic71. I think I tried about 20 or 30 times to get the loader to kick in, I thought it would never go, but eventually it did. I re-flashed with this one CryptStar-v1.4-Core257.bin and to my absolute amazement it came back to life. Quick question. Does this version Autoroll or not? Cos if it does then it's staying on there, I'm not going to mess about any more. If it doesn't, then I might have to have another go, this time using the newer gtrom loader and software for genuine boxes. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
menu 1.5.7.0 go down to set default key press ok then exit exit if it updates your laughing but write down the codes first in case it dosent but yes if done right it will autoroll for you
Tryabit, I think I know what you mean, but let me run it by you what I *think* you mean. Press menu, then 1570 to get to the secret menu. Write down the codes on 00 and 01 Set it to default codes Then exit out of it. If it still works then it must have Autorolled to the right codes. If it doesn't, then it's not Autorolling and I'll have to go back in and enter the codes manually? Is that what you mean?
yes well it says set default key forgot to add press ok then exit buts that exactly what i mean heres hoping ha ha
It works...autorolled a treat, so unless I have another rush of blood to the head thats where it'll stay. Thnks for your help.
