just built a new pc, cleaned it and now it won't start

Hi i just built a new computer the specs are

asus p5k motherboard
hd 4850
2 gigs of crucial ballastic
q6600
antec sonata III(500w psu)
it was working fine until today...well the computer was working fine for 1 week..i mean i built countless of computers and as it should it worked fine!

But i wanted to clean my computer so i reassembled everything and the computer wouldn't start(cpu fan would not run)

So i did a countless of manual "on and off"

i found out that the cpu fan wasn't pushed in all the way

so i fixed the problem and turned on the computer and it says

"overclocked failed" I never overclocked my computer

I'm guessing this is a registry problem, im pretty sure its because i

did the "on and off" too much..well i pressed F1(use default loading)

computer worked!(vista ultimate) well than guess what happens..

the computer after 6 minutes it freezes...

can anyone tell me the bios setup?? or fix this problem??

I got jacked recently of large money and now my computer wouldn't work..

please help

 

so you mean the fan itself was not correctly attached to the heatsink, or the heatsink & fan assembly was not attached to the cpu?

If it was the second one, you probably did serious damage to the CPU.

I just re-read the thread, I think he DAnj00 did burn up his cpu. He says that it would not turn on at all; the system would post if it was just the fan plug being disconnected. The only other explanation would be if the fan plug was only partly on the socket, with ground connected, but with power turning on & off with the vibration of the case...that will cause small power spikes that can burn up just about anything in the system.

...And yes, burned-out cpus still sometimes load windows (I had an old AMD Athlon XP that I cracked a corner off of, it would load windows fine, but crashed all the time, I also had a Intel Celeron 300mhz that I overheated badly (overclocked to 450mhz, and the fan stopped running while I was sleeping)...this would run windows NT (poorly), but would not load windows 98 at all.

 

It's probably the motherboard, I've seen this a lot with P5K boards, they don't seem very good. I'd get it replaced with something better. Boards like Gigabyte's Ep35-DS3R are going strong these days.
You may find the shop tells you the board isn't faulty, don't listen, they will always say that with motherboard faults.

 

and yet i have never seen this with nay P5K mobo. m8 clear CMOS. try this, if that does work, then taek apart your cpu and HSF, clean the original thermal paste, and use some Arctic Silver 5, or some MX-2 thermal paste.

 

You've not seen the 'overclock failed' with the P5K before? It's been on aD a good few times at least...

i have never seen any problem with any decent P35 chipset for OCing, unless its the abit mobos.

 

It's not a problem with overclocking, it happens even at stock - 'overclock failed' - I've not seen it happen with the P5K-E, but I have seen it with the P5K-SE and the P5K. The Sempron boards in 20 or so PCs at my school were notorious for it as well.

 

oh. i see. thats weird. could it be trying to leave it on auto is trying to OCit slightly, or reducing voltages? thats is why even if i run somthing on stock, i do not run it on auto LOL
