I don't want to copy whole DVDs, I just want to extract clips for a school presentation which will run off a hard drive. So I need to make a short movie from ripped clips. Any suggestions?

You can rip just clips from a movie with DVD Shrink. In re-author mode you will see two little arrows pointing left and right. This will let you set start and stop points so you can just rip the portion of the video that you want.

You can always join the clips later to make your short movie with TMPGEnc or an mpeg editor like VideoRedo.

Thanks for the info but tell me is it possible to save it as an MPEG 2 file, I think that's what I need.

Well, DVDshrink will write it to disk as a VOB file. But a VOB file is an mpeg2 file, just enhanced (subtitles, extra audio streams, etc.)

Try playing the VOB on your PC with whatever application you would normally use to play an mpeg2 file and you'll see it should play just fine. You could always rename the file extension to .mpg or .mpeg if you wanted to as well.
