Hi all, i know this might sound silly but could changing my media cause this error?, i always use Aones and not had one problem but the guy i get them off didnt have any but had some PiData, anyway buned my game played for abit and then started getting disk cannot be read, please clean BLa Bla Bla. The next thing me screen goes all dotty, i then switch off xbox and switch back on and BAM E74 error. Really pissed off now. lol
do you still think you have had no problems with the aone disks? i think you used so much crap media and for so long that it finally killed your drive.
Nah mate, i have just actually fixed the e74 error, for a while anyway, i did the xclamp fix which didnt work but as i was moving it with xbox switched on i noticed the picture flickered, so just manipulated the av socket a little and everything worked fine, all fixed, or so i thought, i installed the game to hd and all worked for about half an hour and it has just e74 errored again!! Dont actually think it is anything to do with the media now!!
The screen went all dotty? You mean like this? Only a reflow will help you at this point. You can try every trick/fix you can think of but in the end it will come back till you get a reflow. I seriously doubt it was caused by you changing media, it's caused from the heat cycle and a warping mb.
Yes thats exactly what i got!! Looks like i will have to find someone in Hull in the UK then, not heard of anyone doing this here!!
A reflow will fix it. I've done many. Media has nothing to do with it and the RROD has nothing to do with your drive. The soder points need reflowed plain and simple.
Its nearly 5 years old and the e74 error is only covered for 3 years isnt it, any way i bit the bullet and just ordered a motherboard off ebay with drive key, it has rrod but i can fix that no probs, just dont know what to do from there! I will be putting the flashed drive from this xbox into that one, how do i go about doing this, does anyone know? Thanks
sounds like you just ordered the same problem. you will need to spoof the keys from your new mobo to the drive that will be going into it and re-flash. I think you will still need the re-flow. It is not difficult just disconnect your fans and let the box overheat. then press down on your heat syncs HARD. let it cool completely and fire it up. you could also do the pennies trick. I have done this several times and it works very well.
I was told this has nothing to do with the rrod and the heatsinks, and it is to do with the ANA chip, i have done the xclamp fix numerous times and eveytime it works but each time it gets shorter and shorter and its not actually getting the rrod, I have fixed a number of consloes with rrod and all are still working fine!!! Thats why i have ordered this, sort of like a fresh start!!
That will more than likely overheat the chips, making the problem worse. Also the penny trick warps your board, so I would suggest not to do it.
hi snowman1 if your in the west hull area england i know a bloke that you can get it sorted out by just pm me and i send you the email for him
Hi jasonx1, i actually live east Hull, Kingswood, I have ordered this motheboard from someone off ebay and hope this will sort this problem, if it dont then i will defo contact you, i know how to do the xclamp fix as i have done a few and they are still ok, so hopefully fingers crossed i can get this sorted once i spoofed my drive, anyway thanks for getting back to me and good to know theres someone local, thanks again bud
no probs . as your in the east hull area . at craven park theres a bloke who has a playstation van there every saturday he does the full lots . and he also at walton street market aswell . he is great and cheap . just in case anyone eles from hull on here . you know where to go hope you get sorted out
I wouldn't mess around with xclamps they warp the board just as bad as the penny trick. Some do work but in my case I get the ones that were already xclamped and it can make reflowing pretty tough.
how could the penny trick warp the board? all it does is replace the thermal pads (if you have them) with a more effective heat sync. with the way they are placed, it could almost be safe to assume they provide stability to the board around the CPU and GPU
wow. Anyone who works on 360's at all knows the penny trick is stupid. You're comparing the pennies to pads that are soft. When the 360 is screwed down with a stack of pennies they cannot smash down like a pad so the board flexs. Bad idea.
they don't make contact on the ones I have done. used a dap of thermal paste on the back side and test fitted before putting it all together. no smears
ok I'll just say this and leave it alone. ultimately it is a choice as to how you want to proceed and it is risk reward. I have done several consoles the way I described, all of which still work fine. some for Well over a year. read and make your own choice.
