I have a Mac G4 DigitalAudio running OS X 10.2.8. I have just replaced the original CD drive with a used Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-104 drive (bought on eBay, no guarantee). The new drive reads CDs, but will not read DVDs. I hear an intermittent clicking, but the drive does not seem to spin up. (It obviously does spin up when a CD is installed.) Eventually, the drive door opens, ejecting the DVD. I have searched the Web for a solution, but have found none. Can anyone help? Is it possible for the CD portion of the drive to be operating correctly while the DVD portion is non-functional? -Phyllis
The only thing that comes to my mind is if ur firmware is up to date? Check it out here http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php Keep me poted...
Some of the links on the page you suggested do not work. I was able to find a link that worked, but all the firmware seems to be for PCs, not Macs. The firmware version that Mac reports is 1.31. (BTW, updating firmware is a new experience for me.) There does not seem to be an update on the Apple site for this. Looks like I'm going to have to start over with another drive.
I think this should do the trick, thanxs for clariflying that its for a MAC http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/hs/mac_updaters.html U can post MAC questions in the mac forum which is here... http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/164 Good Luck and keep me posted...
