Sounds like your system is just running pretty slowly. How long have you had this problem? Did you recently install XP Pro? I think your processor is just fast enough to be running it.

I would suggest you run some general diagnostic programs: virus scans, de-fragment your HDD, run a registry cleaner such as CCLean and uninstall any unneeded software.

upgrade your ram to at least 1gig as i did that to a hp last year so it runs faster with more programs opened.

When your PC was new the operating system was less resource intensive, as were the programs that were written to run on it, so less physical memory was required.

It sounds as if your PC is quite old, and as a result you should research what speed of ram your motherboard supports so that you do not run into any issues when upgrading. If you download and run cpuz (from here), and then tell us the information from the Mainboard tab, we can help you in that area.

A hardware upgrade will increase performance finitely more, but I would suggest you make the aforementioned maintenance a regular thing anyway as it is good habit to ensure your machine runs as smoothly as possible.
