This thread: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/304216#1753316 was locked for: So, I wanted to understand where the thread went wrong since no piracy was being promoted, as a matter of fact some very informative "You cannot do that" posts were made, hopefully teaching some who do not know better what is and isn't acceptable. I really couldn't pinpoint the violation of this rule: Was this simply a case where a thread was heading down some path that someone didn't like? Which is perfectly fine... Or was there some fundamental rule broken here that I just don't see?
Discussions of that nature are prohibited on this site. The question was borderline at best and was going to cause nothing but trouble. But it happens all the time. No harm no foul. Nothing ventured nothing gained.
@ThePastor, I went back to read the complete thread. In most cases talking about backing up ones owned dvds is OK but the actual law is a gray area even on owned dvds. Some read the laws and say its OK but it has never been taken to court to see who would win on that gray area. Making a copy of a RENTAL dvd IS against the law and falls under the Piracy terms. Since this forum is always under the microscope its just better to refrain from those types of threads. The laws in the country this forum is based were changed as of the beginning of the year causing us to be even more careful of what is said or discussed. The mods have to watch out for whats best for the forum. As you stated it was just going down the wrong path and needed to be closed. Hope this explains it somewhat. Jerry
