i have had my pc for a year and never any over heating probs. it started 2 weeks ago, when i installed call of duty 4 for my son, wether that is coincidense i dont know. but the heat is at the top of the case where the power fan is. i gave all the fans a clean 1 front. 1 side. 1 rear and the processor fan, but it still gets hot on the top of case. if it is run for 2 long hot i lose internet connection,? i still have connection on my other pc which is connected wirelessly to 1st pc. ps.it has a pentium(R)DCPU 3.00 GHz 2.99GHz 2 gig ram running xp pro.. pps. i know its a different subject but it could be something to do with it. every time i start pc i get message this file wants to run. name: nrhmsy.exe type: application from: c:\ WINDOWS\system 32 i have let it run not let it run and unchecked the box asking not to display message again, but its still there every time i start pc
Is COD4 the first application you've used on your computer that would really push the computer hard? It sounds like you haven't over-clocked anything. If you keep the side of the case off does it still overheat?
Well it seems like this is the first time your system has had to work hard, but heat shouldn't be a problem when everything is on stock settings. I'd try running the computer with the case open to see if it's a problem with air circulation, or if the components themselves are overheating. Here is a link to CPU temperature monitoring software. see if this free utility can give you your cpu/hard drive temps from within windows. http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html Your cpu should be under 65 celciius. your hard drives need to be under 50 celcius. If they are higher you need to install more case fans in your rig.
these are the readings i got with speedfan. the flame sign i presume means it is running hot. GPU: 74C FLAME CPU:53-54 FLAME CORE: 74-75 FLAME SYSTEM: 46 GREEN TICK AUX: 45-47 FROM GREEN TICK TO RED ARROW HDO: 33 BLUE ARROW AMBIENT: 0 BLUE ARROW those readings were done while the pc was just running without usage for approx 3 hours.
You can always place a case fan to blow directly on your video card to try and lower that temp, you can check on the internet to see if that temp is normal for your video card. Your cpu for an older pentium and hard drive both are reading OK. Another thing that might be causing your problem is if your using a low wattage power supply, those get warm if they are working at there limit. A 400 watt power supply that only has to provide 250 watts will run cooler than a 250 watt power supply that has to provide 250 watts.
Yeah those are pretty high temperatures for idling. I could see how if you were stressing the system it would go through the roof. My CPU idles around 30 and my GPU around 55. Full load my CPU tops out at around 65 and my GPU at 60. I'd check to see if your CPU fan is properly mounted. Check if there is any weird warping or perhaps the thermal paste has degenerated away? You won't be able to do too much for the GPU. It could just be because your whole system is running so hot. What graphics card do you have in there? You might be able to tweak its fan settings higher.
ok guys, it does seem to run cooler with side panel off, but there is a fan there and that seems to blow plenty of cool air in, so it could be that the hot air isnt getting extracted properly ( which fan does that)another thing my video card is a NVIDIA geforce 7300 SE i also noticed that disc space is nearly half full.another thing where do you find out what power supply you are using. is it on the rear casing or the power cable? i get my system info off auslogics syst info download.
