Ok guys I purchased an XBox yesterday now I am to decide what to do to get it modded. I have never soldered before so I really don't want to mess with that so I was thinking If I should get like a Pogo pin chip and try that or try and find a shop that mods xbox? Also my XBox in the back says Manfacture date of 3/20/2002 so this is a version 1? I appreciate any help and I thank you in advance!

    I guess yes
    is a version 1
the one with soldered LPC holes (points)

a pogo pin would work great for that version

    mine says 2002-03-16
    is a V.1

    I could'nt find the chip I wanted with the pogo adaptor (X-ecuter 2.2 L)

there are 3 types of installation
    1- pogopin adaptor (easiest)
    2- Headerpin install (somewhat easy)
3- wires (the hardest of the 3)but not that hard

choose the one you think you can do best

    ;)

    that's correct bro

    I could'nt find the pogo for X-ecuter
and the headerpin needs the holes without solder
(to insert the pins and then soldering eachone on its hole)

I did the wires install just days ago
    (my first chip install)
that's why I tell you is not that hard to do

    good luck finding the X-cuter+pogo
If you are not sure about soldering wires and cant find the pogo for X-cuter

    chamaleon+pogo is a good alternative
    very easy to find

i highly recommend the chameleon + solderless adapter from easybuy2000.

Really easy to install and tou can flash the bios without having to solder any point.

I was looking at the chamelon install w/solderless adapter and man does it look much much more simpler than the rest but I have questions first is what would be the big difference between chamelon and the xecuter? there both 1mb as I can see also what I didn't see in the chamelon is like switches to change modes I think there was some on the chip it self if I saw correctly so does that mean I would need to open the xbox to change switches?

not sure what the big difference between chamelon and the xecuter. All i know is that i have the chamelon running with the xecuter bios and it does everything i want it to. As far as changing modes, yes you will have to open your xbox to switch between bios and to tell you the truth its only a 5 minute job which is not to painful if you are doing it once and a while but if you intend doing it on a regular basis i would advice going for the chip.

Once you figure out what mode you want the Chameleon chip in there's really isn't a need to change it. Using mode 4 you get two 256k banks and 0ne 512 bank. Right now there isn't a bios that needs to be bigger than 512k so in this mode you can have 3 different bios files on the chip.

After reflash and installing your chip use an Auto Installer like SLayers to install all your apps on the hard drive.

Thanks rusty, Ok so far this is in the order I am guessing I should do things:

    1. Mod the xbox

    2. Flash it with Xecuter2.Build.4977

    3. Pop in the SLayers cd and let it install the stuff.

am I on right track or?

Yes but instead of using the X2 bios start with a Evox bios. Or with the chip you buy, if you can split it in 2 you should flash half with the X2 bios and the other half with an evox bios.
You'll find that it's harder to load a boot disc like Slayers using the X2 bios since it skips the DVD drive at start up and goes straight to the hard drive.
Also make sure the bios is compatible with your version Xbox.
The X2 4977 and EvoxM7 bios files work with all version Xbox's.

I have decided to get the Chameleon+ Pogo Adapter and my xbox has a Manufacture date of 3/20/2002 so either its a 1.0 or a 1.1

So I should split the chamelon chip into 2x 512k and put evox in one bank and x2 on the other?

Since both bios files are only 256k in size you could leave it as 4 banks of 256k. I would suggest leaving one bank with the preflashed linux bios just in case you ever need to reflash it using a disc.
Once it's flashed and installed you can use the EvolutionX dash to switch banks.

Ok great! Also I am going to follow these instructions to do my BIOS CD that I found over at XBox-Scene but I have a question it says to use xecutor2 bios maker but since I want to flash using the Evox BIOS first I was thinking do I do this step as well with the xecutor2 bios maker (X2BM)?

HOW TO MAKE THE BIOS CD
#1 - download the 4977 xecutor bios off the ftp site listed above and extract the files
#2 - off the same ftp site in the dir /XBOX/bios/xecuter/flashbios_cromwell get the file "xecuter_flashbios.zip" and extract the dummyfile.exe
#3 - get xecutor2 bios maker (x2bm) off this site (w00t for hosting it) and extract
#4 - load up x2bm and click import. you want the X2_4977.bin file in all four banks.
#5 - click save and save it as bios.bin; im fairly sure it automatically makes it a bin, so dont put a ".bin" in the file name.
#6 - have the dummyfile.exe make you a 100mb file and put it somewhere you can remember (desktop is fine )
#7a - if you have windows xp just burn the 2 files using the integrated cd burning software. make sure you close the session or whatever.
#7b - if you dont have winxp (lamer), use nero. have it burn a data cd, no multisession, disc at once and finalize. i recommend burning at 4x
