With free shipping this NEC 3540 for $41.99 is a screeming deal. I paid more for the 3520 just a couple of months ago. No problems at all with my NEC. NEC Repuatation is quality just below Plextor, still very good! No problems with Newegg, either!

    Hi
I bought one of these last week and it has performed very well so far. The only problem i have come across with it is, it likes to be set as master if you are using 2 drives. If you are using NERO you will need to upgrade to the latest version.

Look at the Plextor 716 from new egg for 120.00 with shipping. Another great deal also at new egg, if you don't have to burn at 16x, [I never burn over 8x, even though I have the capability] is the plextor 712. After rebates, it comes out to about 72.00 inc. shiping.

A NEC for $42 incl shipping VS a Plextor for $120 ? No contest! The Plextor is slighly better but not worth three times the price.

To each his or her own. I personally have never had much luck with great bargains.

NEC is the real deal. I have a three year old burner still going strong as well as a three month old 3520. No complaints about either. Hundreds of burns. NEC enjoys a good reputation on these boards and elsewhere. The bargin price is icing on the cake.
