Greets, I have a KDL-40v2500 (yes, I know there is a 127 page forum on this TV) and was hoping someone far wiser than I could PLEASE let me know what I am doing wrong. On non-HD shows which are not 4:3, the TV is showing a letterbox inside a letterboxed. In other words, it looks like it would be a perfect 14:9 fit, but it is in a really large black frame (top and sides). I am not sure why it chooses this. Otherwise, 4:3 is fine (no top/bottom bars) and HD is fine. If anyone knows what I mean, and has an answer, please let me know what can be done here ... zoom and wide just distort Thanks!
I'm not sure if I can help, but does what you're describing look something like this on your television screen? If so, then that's normal. On a non-HD channel, the show is being broadcast with the black bars at the top and bottom, so that it's more like this. Just like when you're watching a standard 4:3 TV show, you have the black bars on the left and right (unless you change your picture setting so that the picture fills the screen, but usually distorts it in the process). The center image is what's being broadcast, while the black space on the left and right is the unused part of your TV screen. Depending on the picture settings available on your TV, you can zoom in on the image so that the majority of it fills the screen, as it would on the HD channel. And if this wasn't at all what you were talking about, I'm really sorry, and please disregard all of this while I put my foot in my mouth.
My 2$, Im not sure of your prob, but I can tell you, although I dont have a high def tv right now, When I go to High def channels with my tv, I get the box all around the picture as well. I assumed as it is being broadcasted in High def, my tv wont display it properly , therefore I get the picture with a black box all around it. Maybe this can make some sense to whats going on with yours. =)
