whenever i convert my avi files to dvd, with all conversion programs they give me a choice of 4.3 or 16.9. I was just wondering if theres any way to keep the size of the source of my avi file when coverting to dvd. ex.juss like when converting avi-vcd.
Unless the original resolution is DVD compliant (and they rarely are) you'll want to encode to one that is. All DVD players have hardware capable of playing other resolutions, but not all have firmware that will allow it. Plus most DVD authoring software will insist on DVD compliant video. As long as you keep the same aspect ratio (with widescreen movies this will often mean padding the top and bottom with black bars) and use a good MPEG encoder it should turn out fine. BTW, resolution is not the same thing as size. 352x480 and 704x480 will be the same size if they're set to the same aspect ratio when played on a DVD player. One will just have more detail (although not as much as you might think once it goes through an analog connection to the TV).
