Hello, I'm using DVDshrink and Nero 6 to burn my movies and on just about every one of them, it starts skipping and/or freezing towards the end of the movie when I watch them. I've tried slowing the burn speed down, but Nero won't let me burn slower than 4x. I've tried burning with DVDecryptor, but the same thing happens. I'm running WinXP SP2 with a TEAC DVD+RW DV-W58E as my burner.

Could it be my burner since it will only allow me to use DVD+R and not +/- as the blank media? I'm a newb at this so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You could be burning too close to the edge of the disc. Try using an output of 4300Mb. Click Edit, Preferences, select custom were it says DVD-5 and change to 4300

    Most likely it's media quality.

What's the brand name and speed of those plus discs you are using?
How fast are you burning them?
Using shrink for entire disc or re-author for main movie only?

Being a newb, the quality of your media is critical. This isn't like cd burning and any old disc will work.Dvd burning is a lot more extreme.

Try setting your backup target in dvd shrink to 4360 mbs:
    1)Open up dvd shrink
    2)Edit
    3)preferences
4)Click on dvd-5 and scroll till you get to custom
    5)To the right of custom,enter 4360
    6)Click ok

This will be your new backup target, thus, preventing the outer edge of the disc from being burned. This area is vulnerable to uneven dye. This setting is where I keep mine on all my backups.

Some media is so bad,you may even have to reduce that target to 4300 mbs.

I'm going to try that 4360 custom setting and see how that works.

The media that I'm using is Memorex DVD+R.
I try to burn at 2x but Nero will only allow me to burn at 4x.
I use shrink for both entire disc and re-authoring, depending on the movie and the extras, but get the same result.

I'll let you know how the custom setting works. Also, I hear that Verbatim and Tako (can't remember the whole name) are good for back ups. Any thoughts on that.

    Thanks for the help guys.

Most like cmags! That usually explains it,lol

Definitely reduce that target. I burned a few cmags and they were ok,with my reduced target and a 2.4x burn speed.I didn't put anything important on them seeing as how the poorer quality discs are breaking down quicker than the quality ones.

Tako: Taiyo Yuden and verbatim data life plus are among the best.If you have a local staples, they have the sony +1x-8x 50 pack spindles on sale for $20. Search for the ones that say: Fabrique Au Japan on them. They are made by taiyo yuden and code as Yuden000-T02.I just picked up a spindle today.Best Buy and CompUsa also have them on sale.

Verbatim is made in taiwan, but the data life plus have the metal azo dye and are excellent.Be cautious on the data life and the media life verbs, cmags are sometimes used.

Edit, Download this free, handy tool to help ID those memorex discs. It's free:

Some media is so bad that you can't reduce the target size enough to solve the problem because the dye layor is uneven throughout the entire dvd and cmags are known to be one of the worst.

Both these gents have provided excellent information and suggestions. Let us know the ID of those discs.
