I have read every post that has to do with this drive. So I swear I have tried to fix this without bothering anyone else. I have the khypermedia kvdrw8x drive. From what I can gather, it is made in Malaysia, making it a ben-q drive. I have updated with every available firmware. I have updated motherboard drivers. I have changed to cable select. I have done everything I can. The drive will not recognize a dvd disc. Forget burning or copying, this drive will not even play a dvd store bought movie. I can burn cd's, I can play a cd-rom. Nero infotool recognizes it's a dvd burner. It just won't play them. I can't change the dvd region without the latest firmware, which i have bc37 currently. However, I have been able to change it under other firmwares and it doesn't help. Any other ideas are appreciated and a bottle of scotch to anyone who can tell me how to fix it. Well, not really the scotch but I will appreciate it. The only thing I have yet to try, is there some kind of switch or jumper on the circuit board in the burner I could trigger? Thanks Matt
The only jumper on the drive itself is the MASTER/SLAVE jumper. If its on the IDE cable with your main C HD it should be set to SLAVE. If its on the secondary IDE set it to MASTER and any other drive with it should be SLAVE. Other than that setting there isn't much you have to do. Maybe try it in another computer if possible. That will tell you if its a PC problem or Drive problem. Jerry
It is actually out of someone elses computer and he had the same prob. I'm usually pretty good with this stuff but this is getting the best of me. I have tried moving that jumper around. I had it as master on seconde ide ribbon. I tried moving it to cable select, I'm just trying anything at this point. Thanks
Same problem in 2 PCs means it is the drive itself. Make sure you have the correct firmware for the drive. If I remember right, that drive was made by someone other than Ben-q But I don't have the info at this time. The wrong firmware will sure kill it. Jerry
Well, the story goes like this. If the box says made in china, its a CyberDrive. If its made in malaysia, its a benq. Mine says malaysia. I know the drive must work, it will burn cd's. The dvd portion just seems to not be there.
The KHypermedia drive is a Benq DW800a (single format +R/RW) if the box says made in Malaysia. Original firmware would be something from B2G7 - B4N7 The firmware you have is B3x7 series. This is a dual format firmware. BenQ firmwares build upon each other. So, B3A7 would had to have been flashed to the drive first then B3B7, B3C7, and B3D7 (hard to find but not impossible) B3A7 is a $10.00 firmware from BenQ. I don't know if they offer it anymore, but it can be done without them. People have saved BenQ drives from being mis-flashed. Go here and do more research for the drive. http://forum.rpc1.org/portal.php
So is there a way to, I guess "BackFlash". If I have the newest, can I go to original factory set? I know it wasn't flashed in order as you said before.
Okay, strike that. I got it flashed back to the b2h7, an old firmware. Windows recognizes it as a dvd/cdrw. Nerotool says it is a dvd burner. However, it still won't play dvds. When i go to check the region, it says unselected, when I select us, it says make sure media is region 1, make sure you're admin, blah blah blah. this part has never worked right.
Everytime you flash it, it usually goes back to factory settings. So, you will have to select the region and be logged on as ADMIN. at the time. Log in as ADMIN. Put in a store bought movie region 1 disc (not a region free backup) and let it do it's thing. Choose region 1 Open up your movie watching software like PowerDVD or WinDVD. Your viewing software is probably already set to region 1. If not, set it. Now, see if you can watch the movie. You will also have to reset your "Autoplay" for the drive after flashing. I set all my drives to do nothing whenever a disc is inserted. I like to use different programs at times and it slows me down.
Yes To make any Administrative changes you have to be logged in as Administrator. Are you saying that you are already logged in as ADMIN?
I'm logged in under my name. But I have am the system admin. Does it have to be literally "Adminstrator"?
Try it. If It works yes. I don't have any other user names. So I'm allways logged in as system ADMIN.
