    Hi every38,

I’ll be off work for the next few days so, follow my instructions and “pay no attention to the peanut gallery” lol we will attempt to clean your machine…..

Make sure you have the LATEST version of HJT (currently v2.0.0.2) from -> HERE.

The above link will download the HijackThis installer. Run the HijackThis Installer and it will automatically place HJT in C:\ProgramFiles\TrendMicro\HijackThis\HijackThis.exe. It will also automatically OPEN HJT, close it.

    THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
Open the C:\Program Files\TrendMicro\HijackThis folder in program files. Rename the Hijackthis.exe file to EveryHyJkTs.exe. This is because some malware can hide from HijackThis.exe. Right click the HijackThis.exe file and choose rename. Click in the title box and press the delete key to clear what’s there, type EveryHyJkTs.exe and press the enter key. Right click the EveryHyJkTs.exe file and choose send to desktop(create shortcut).
Under no circumstances should you add any items to the HJT ignore list.

    Run HijackThis.
Click on “Do a System Scan and Save Logfile.” After the program is done with the scan, Copy and Paste the Log File to your next post.

I will look over the HJT Log and give you some instructions. Follow my instructions and we can rid you of this malware you are infected with…

    Awaiting your reply..
    2OG

    Hi every38,

It will take me a while to look over the log and give you some instructions for a fix so, please bare with me and follow the instructions I will be posting for you. That way we'll be able to clean it up as soon as possible..

    EDIT:
Also, please make an uninstall list using HijackThis
To access the Uninstall Manager you would do the following:

    1. Start HijackThis
    2. Click on the Config button
    3. Click on the Misc Tools button
    4. Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.
    5. Click on the Save list... button and specify where you would like to save this file. When you press Save button a notepad will open with the contents of that file. Simply copy and paste the contents of that notepad here in your next reply.

    every38,

I'm going over your logs now. It may take a while but I've got nothing else scheduled for tonight LOL.

As Arnold said "I'll be back..."

    Every38,

Please observe these rules while we work:

    (1) Perform all actions in the order given.
    (2) If you don't know, stop and ask! Don't keep going on.
    (3) Stick with it till you're given the all clear.

    Here we go………..

Quite often many problem programs can be uninstalled just by going to Control Panel and selecting Add/Remove Programs. Doing this before running cleaning procedures may help to give better more complete cleaning results and could even speed things up. Look for any of the below items in Add/Remove programs and if found select them and uninstall them.

    My Global Search Bar
    My Web Search (Webfetti)
    WhenU Save
    Megaupload Toolbar
<- this is spyware, tracks your movements…. Your choice to keep it…

Please download ATF Cleaner and save it to your desktop we will use it later.

    • Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
    • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

    • then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please attach this log with your next reply.

Reboot your computer into safe mode.
When your computer is starting up, tap the F8 key on your keyboard continuously until you are presented with the Startup Menu or Windows Advanced Options Menu, depending on your version of Windows. Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to choose Safe Mode from the menu and press Enter.

Run HijackThis and place a check mark next to the following entries. (If they still exist.)

    O2 - BHO: MyWebSearch Search Assistant BHO - {00A6FAF1-072E-44cf-8957-5838F569A31D} - C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\SrchAstt\1.bin\MWSSRCAS.DLL

    REBOOT to regular Mode.

Post back here with a fresh HiJack Log..
There are a couple of things more we may have to do…..
Also let me know, how are you running?

Hi every38. Your problem sounds terribly like an autorun worm, so I would recommend downloading Flash Disinfector by sUBS and running it. If you wish to do it manually, boot in safe mode, go the beginning of each drive, and delete the killVBS.vbs file and the autorun.inf file there. You may have to enable the see system protected files and folders option in folder options, then you can see it and delete it. This might not solve the problem completely, as the malware can be hidden in your system as well, which is why I recommend uploading the killVBS.vbs file to virustotal.com (you may have to put it in a zip file if the .vbs file is unaccessible or something), see which type of antimalware detects it, download the free version of that antimalware, and then scan your computer in safe mode.

    Best Regards :D

Hi cdavfrew, Good advice. I have the KillVBS.vbs virus in the cross hairs as we speak LOL.
every38 has other malware that needs to be removed first. MywebSearch Trojan is the probable cause of the KillVBS Virus so we need to clear that.
The F2 line is usually the clue but in this case it’s not showing that it’s pointing to it. It may be partially hidden…. Who knows?? That’s OK, it can run but it can’t hide. Not for long anyway LOL

You are more than welcome, every38. Let’s see if we can finish the job…..

There were a couple of things in your first Log that bothered me..

    This line:
    F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe

Description: Userinit.exe is a key process in the Windows operating system. On boot-up it manages the different start up sequences needed, such as establishing network connection and starting up the Windows shell. This program is important for the stable and secure running of your computer and should not be terminated. Note: userinit.exe could also be a process which is registered as a trojan. This Trojan allows attackers to access your computer from remote locations, stealing passwords, Internet banking and personal data. It could also be a registered security risk and should be removed immediately. Determining whether this process is a virus or a legitimate Windows process depends on the directory location it executes or runs from in WinTasks.

Normally you will not see this line unless it points to a malware file. That is, it ends with a comma “,” and has a file path after it. This one dosen’t!

    And this line:
    O16 - DPF: {D71F9A27-723E-4B8B-B428-B725E47CBA3E} (Imikimi_activex_plugin Control) - http://imikimi.com/download/imikimi_plugin_0.5.0.cab

I don’t really know what it is, but it looks like a plugin for MySpace or YouTube. If that’s OK with you we’ll leave it alone………

From all indications you are infected with the KillVBS.vbs virus so let’s go that way…..

    Please download KillVBS-Remover – > HERE!
Unzip it to your desktop but don’t run it..
Now follow the previous instructions to boot in the SAFE MODE.
Once in the Safe Mode Run VBS Remover.exe and follow the instructions..
    REBOOT to NORMAL Mode.

Run a fresh HijackThis Log and post it, Please.
After we get you cleaned up I’ll give you some instructions for BLOCKING this Crap..

    every38,

I just had a cold brew, and here is a thought after I got my head on straight LOL.

Please don’t become discouraged, this KillVBS.vbs virus is a bugger to get rid of and it will take a little more work. We will undoubtedly have to disinfect all the flash drives that your cousins are poking into your machine so, hang in there……… :)

    2Og,

i use command prompt to remove viruses on my usb flash drives... by using the command attrib and deleting files with SHR. i also taught my cousin to do that... but i forgot to tell her that my computer is infrected with killVBS.vbs so there... question,, is that an effective way of removing viruses? i found that killVBS.vbs that way in my usb flash disk in my other computer...

    every38,

Quarantine your computer until it’s clean!!!! The Flash drive is the best way to transfer viruses that has ever been invented……..

Do the last fix that I posted and send a fresh HiJackThis Log so we can finish cleaning it.

I have never used the command mode to clean a flash drive. That’s because I have never had a virus on any of my flash drives. I work for a hotel and there are 23 computers there that I keep virus free. I carry flash drives in my pockets and move files from one to another and take files home to my computers….never had a virus…

We will use Flash Disinfector to clean up the drives. But first, let’s get your machine clean. Don’t stick any more flash drives in it until then, please……… :)

    Hey every38,
I got a problem, my computer went down and I'll have to replace the Motherboard and a few other things. Also I will be working Thurs. Fri. and Sat, nights so I may not be back on here until Sunday.
After you do the last fix, if all seems OK then Google for Flash Disinfector and use it to clean your Flash Drives.

    I'll be back......... Maybe Sunday..
    Til then,
