Ok im using a catgory 6 male to male ethernet crossover cable 10/100mbps and both of them work with my laptop but when i try to connect them both together they dont get recognised. Also the only game that works is Counter Strike on LAN,and only my Laptop can Host,My laptop also cant host on Hearts of Iron, or Warcraft 3,My laptop has to be the host but thats really getting annoying.Only Counter Strike Works and all other games such as Empire Earth 2, Serious Sam 2, Warcraft 3, Hearts of Iron,Dawn of War and all my other games dont seem to work with LAN.My Warcraft 3 wont let my laptop play on lan.And my Windows Xp versions were installed when i got it,so i dont have my own windows xp.can someone please help me with this, i have experience with building pcs from scratch but dont have any network skills.

Ive tried this thread on the other PC forum but not luck there,so i thought you guys might help. Ive also tried removing the firewall on both PCs, but it still is a major problem, cause i can only play half life based games not half life 2 . and Ive managed to share folders. I do not have a router or anything.

Hope you guys can help me

    Cheers

Did you use the windows xp wizard and make a bridge connection between the laptop and the computer? Maybe your computer has windows firewall still turned on that is preventing you from hosting a game on your desktop. If that's the case, turn it off. You could also go get a router and connect them that way over the lan. That would probably be the best way.
