Laptop burning woes; Please Help!

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion zv6000 (laptop) with a Lightscribe 8x burner. Device manager claims it's a "TSST CORP CD/DVDW TS-L532M" When I try and burn my backup ISOs, they are only readable in the drive itself... not my DVD player. It is also readable in my old tower (in an Optorite DD1205), so I am assuming that the drive is doing a weird thing w/ regions, but I don't know how to fix this. The same ISO is burned properly in the Optorite and recognized by the dvd player. I have tried multiple burning methods and multiple versions of nero. I can't seem to find any firmware information for the laptop drive, so I was wondering if anybody here has encountered this or has a solution. Thanks in advance.

 

are your ISOs rips from commercial DVDs? I ask because maybe they're not correct DVD format.

Also, what brand of media are you using? Have you ever gotten a burn to play in your dvd player? Some players don't like all media. General rule is that -R is more compatible than +R unless you "booktype" your +R discs to make them look like DVD-ROM (commercial DVD).

 

i am using memorex 8x, and the isos work as long as i burn them from my tower's burner. But when i burn them from the laptop burner, it wont read in the player. the same media is being used and the same isos are used

 

well a computer will play more types of files than a DVD player will play, and an ISO can be anything. That's why I ask.

Your problem may be your media choice and/or burn speed. I'd suggest better media like Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden, Memorex is just about the worst you can get. (Sorry but it's true) Most people here (myself included) burn at 4x or less to avoid errors, but I don't think that's your problem here. I think changing your media choice will help out here.

 

Agree with squizzle,memo is crap.
Try verbatim+,TY,Ritek or Sony disk.
Ditto on the -r too.

 

edit: i apologize, i said memorex, but I am using fujifilm.... is this still on the same level as memorex?

 

Well I did find your drive, it is a Toshiba. It shows the available firmware, although it states it is "slave function firmware" which is something I have not seen before, and somebody with more know how will have to explain it.

I have an HP lightscribe burner and it automatically notifies me when an update is available for download.

 

fuji's are better than Memorex, but still not guaranteed to produce good copies. I would only use Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. Taiyo Yuden can be found online, Verbatim can be found just about anywhere.

 

I sent another e-mail to HP about this problem with the "TSST CORP CD/DVDW TS-L532M burner and this is their reply which seams like lot of work for a new computer. Also is this going to delete every thing on my hard drive including my personal file and the programs I installed?

Thank you for writing back to us.

I am sorry to know that the issue is unresolved. Generally, the issue resolves by the steps provided in our earlier message. However, if the issue persists then I suggest you to perform the following steps:

Repair Operating System:

To reformat the hard drive and restore the operating system, use the Windows XP OS CD that was shipped with the notebook. To do so follow these steps:

1. Connect the notebook to external power and turn on the notebook.
2. Immediately insert the OS CD into the notebook.
3. Reboot the notebook.
4. Windows setup screen will be displayed. Wait while the setup loads the appropriate drivers.
5. On the next screen (Welcome screen) press the Enter key to continue.
6. Accept the End User License Agreement on the next screen by pressing
F8 key.
7. On the next screen, press Esc key to install a fresh copy of the operating system.
8. Highlight the partition where the Windows operating system is installed and press the D key to delete the partition.
9. Press the Enter key to delete the partition.
10. Press the L key to delete the partition.
11. Press the Enter key to setup Windows in the unpartitioned space.
12. Accept the default partition size or type a new one (in MegaBytes) into the entry field and then press the Enter Key to create the partition.
13. Press the Enter key to setup Windows on the new partition.
14. Choose the <Quick> or standard formatting option and then press Enter.

Setup display a progress screen while partition is formatted. When setup has completed the partition, it begins copying the files. After Windows configuration is initialized, Setup displays a notice to reboot the computer.

15. Press the Enter key to reboot.
16. Once the Windows reboots, you must complete the Windows Out-Of-Box-Experience(OOBE).
17. Reload all the applications and drivers using the Driver Recovery CD included with the notebook and also all the software you wish to install.

 

I have tried Sonic My DVD, Muvee Auto Producer, Nero 6 Ultra Edition, DVD Shrink 3.2, and DVD Decrypter 3.5. I have Windows XP Media addition as my operating sys. I am using Imation and Verbatim DVD +R Disc. My neighbor just bought the same system from HP and is having the same problem! Any suggestion or help would be awesome. Thanks.

 

What DVDs are the most recommended? I here memorex is not so good either! What about Verbatim or HP?

 

I have a Gateway P4 desktop that is about four years old with a Sony burner. I have burned several movies with it using several types of media and programs and have had no problems. That is until I started trying to burn them with my new laptop HP Pavilion zv8000 using the new TSST CORP CD/DVDW TS-L532M burner. Could it be the new one is more sensitive than the old one or is the new burner junk.

 

I have a new HP DV1340US Laptop with the TSSTcorp CD/DVDW TS-L532M writer. I have just gone through an entire 10-pack of Verbatim DVD+R Lightscribe media and have been unable to get a good burn. DVD Identifier says it is Mitsubishi media. Have tried at 8X and 4X with about same results. When I look at the burned side it looks like the last 1/4 of the data has been overwritten. That makes sense because when I do get a burn that seems like it is working...the last 1/4 to 1/3 of my project won't play and hangs up the DVD player (on the computer). HP is no help...they say "use HP branded media." I have burned successfully with Verbatim DVD+R standard media which DVD Identifier says is Ricoh media. HP has not advised about any firmware update on this Toshiba/Samsung combo writer. Anyone got advice other than for me to buy some more blanks of various brands?? Thanks for any responses.

 

Also posted in other threads: Success!! Downloaded chipset and program updates from HP ..AND...installed ASPI...then did a burn with my last of 10 blank Verbatim Lightscribe media at 2.4X. Copy is perfect. Not sure which one or two things made the difference. Since had only one blank handy I wanted to try everything. Thanks for the advice. Personally I think it was the ASPI install. Cheers.

 

Thanks for the info I did the ASPI install before work today but have not found the chipset yet. Will try tomorrow and see what happens? I will try a burn or two before doing any thing else to see it just the ASPI will do the trick.
