    Hi,
Well lately I've been having problems with my laptop so while trying to back up my data I noticed a lot of it was corrupted. I am planning on doing a format soon, so I decided to run chkdsk so that I can repair whatever files I can before backing up, then formatting the laptop.

    It's running Windows Vista, Core2Duo 1.73, 2gb ddr2 ram, 80gb hdd.

The problem is, I started chkdsk about 12 hours ago, and left it to run over night. This morning, it was still running, but I needed to bring my laptop with me, so I just shut the screen so that it can continue running chkdsk while in my laptop bag. (Note: I have adjusted the power options so that it never goes to sleep and so that when I close the screen, all it does is turn off the display, and doesn't go to sleep)

So, I opened my laptop screen to check if chkdsk was done, but the display isn't turning on. The laptop is still on, and it's definitely still doing something since the hard drive light is still pretty solid, along with the power light. I've tried pressing keys, also tried pressing ctrl+alt+del with no result - the display is still off.

Does anyone know what to do or can suggest what I should do? I'm afraid of pressing the power button in the middle of chkdsk, as I don't want anything to get worse. Thanks, and any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Cheers,

Update: My laptop JUST rebooted a few minutes ago, so I'm guessing chkdsk was completed so the display turned on. It also gave me the chkdsk screen, but said "Volume is clean" and something about the disk checking being complete.

So it started loading into Windows, but right now it's stuck at the "Welcome" screen, after I put in my password to log in to Windows. It's been there for a good 10 minutes or so now, so not sure what to do. Would it be wise to try restarting the laptop right now, even though chkdsk just finished running?

    Thanks again!

Update: Well, I just ended up restarting my laptop while on the Welcome screen, and it booted into windows fine. However, Windows tells me every time I log in and every once in a while that my hard disk has a problem and that I should back up my data because I may lose it anytime. So looks like I'll need to change my hard drive in my laptop :(

I'll give it a shot to format first, and if I still get the same error, I guess I'll have to cough up the cash to get a new hd.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like a nasty virus attacked you. So format, then see what the results are.
