Laptop for a student

    I am going to college in 12 days and I don't have a laptop. I don't know to much about computers so I would really appreciate it if someone could give an advice on what to buy. I don't want a average laptop, I want a good one, thanks in advance.

    are you going with vista? xp? a linux variant? ...mac? -_-

    are you looking for something you can easily carry, or a desktop replacement?

    what will you be doing with this machine?

    maximum $1300, I want to do projects on it and have some entertainment. Watch movies, good internet acces and so on.
