My wife just bought our daughter a new laptop. It has a wireless network.Only problem is my daughter could not get access to the internet.I read something in the manual about a router.Does she need a router to go with this.I know she can plug it into the tele wire but with the router she would not have to do this right.Need info?
You have a have cable modem/DSL modem plugged into the laptop, if you don't want to get a wireless router. If you get a wireless router, then the cable/DSL modem plugs into the router, and you don't need anything plugged into the laptop. I hope I have that right.
Also with this router it will work with my pc and the laptop right? The router makes it so she can share the same line right?
Yes, but you need a wireless card or regular LAN card in the PC. If it is a regular LAN card, then you have to hard wire from the router to the PC with CAT 5 cable. If it is a wireless card, you don't need the cable.
Thanks. The wireless card was supposed to be already installed by Dell, so I guess all I need would be the router.
You lost me. Is the PC a Dell? You didn't say, but I suspect that is what you meant. If there is a wireless card installed in it, then you are good to go, with a wireless router. Get a LinkSys. Mine works great. I have an almost 2 year old WRT54G. They have better ones, now.
