This is just weird, my laptop (an hp pavilion dv6000) can't seem to display video output through an s-video cable to rca, without the 3.55 mm mini jack plugged on the audio output. When I remove the mini jack, the display disappears on the tv. Any ideas? thanks in advance.

Maybe try going to sisplay settings then advanced settings then graphics card properties and check for the setting for Digital TV Output and see if there's a setting there to seperate the outputs?? Those laptops use a certain video card I can't remember but there is a seperate control panel I know for it.

No prob mate hope it helps. Thats where the settings for the s-video out are so you should see something there, takes a bit of messing before you come across the right setting as I've found on numurous occasions.

Oh, I usually have to connect the s-video out before starting the laptop for it to work correctly.

i have tried what you have suggested but it seems i can't find it or no settings for that one on my device, the vid card by the way is an nvidia geforce go6150. What is weird is that, I have used the same setup before and it doesn't need the mini jack to be plugged in to display video on the tv. hope additional info clears things up. thanks again mate.

The audio jack doesn't have to be plugged in to view video, no. Try when you right click on your desktop and see if there's a sub-menu for your video card??

I understand what you are saying, that is the weird thing about it. I have checked all settings on my nvidia properties, but there is no menu or options that has something to do with it. I am still scourging the net for answers hope I would get them. Now I'm thinking if I am the only one experiencing this oddity.

Are you sure you have the full drivers installed for the correct video card??

Yes. I think I have, but I downgraded them because the updated driver causes even more problems (i.e. black and white tv out display). Now the tv out display is in color, but the mini jack should be plugged in the audio out slot for display to come out. Whew.

You could try installing the drivers from the manufacturers website rather than the HP website??
