Depends on what the battery is made of. ONLY in the case of NiCD it is best to drain before rechargeing. Not doing so will result in "memory". Meaning the battery will eventualy last as long as you have been allowing even after a full charge and not plugged into a wall. Full charge then use for 10 min then full charge over and over will cause a NiCD battery to perminatly last 10 min after a full charge.

Then came Lithium Ion as well as Nickle Hydroxcide. These batteries dont care how long they are charged and used. They will not form a "memory". This means you can plug it up and run off battery all you want and not worry about damaging the battery. They will eventualy die but by that time you will be in another notebook.
