Sorry if I've posted in the wrong place. My sons laptop lcd screen broke when he dropped it!!!! Now my daughters is broke 'cos she stood on it!!!! I've done simple repairs before but I thought I'd ask advice, Should I pay someone to fix them or do it myself? Is it easy? How much should it cost per laptop? Thanks
You should be able to find teardown/dis-assembly documents for your laptop from the manufacturer, which would then make it a case of finding a replacement part (you'd have to locate this, either on manufacturer documentation or on the part itself) and replacing it. Generally you can take most electronics apart with easily obtainable tools - ie crosshead, flat and torx screwdrivers and a craft knife/credit card/opening tool of some description.
the laptop screens link i've used 3 or 4 times to replace customers' screen that they broke. cheapest screen was about $90Can, most expensive was about $180Can & that was for 15-17" screens.
Thanks ddp I'm in the UK so I'll look for another site and have a go at replacing the screens myself. Any help appreciated
Thanks ripper Toshiba satellite c650d/115 Dell inspiron M5040 5040-6268 The Dell one might be under guarantee but I got it from Bestbuy uk which has ceased. Thanks
Doesn't matter, it should have come with 1 year manufacturer warranty that Dell will oblige anyway, so worth looking in to if that applies to you.
Here are instructions for both your models, they were pretty easy to find. Toshiba: http://www.irisvista.com/tech/laptops/Toshiba-Satellite-C650-C655/remove-replace-screen.htm Dell: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/insN5040/en/sm/display.htm#wp1109848 Looks like ebay is your best/cheapest bet for a replacement LCD, but I'm not going to link a particular one.
