When I tried to restore my emachines laptop (m5305), it shuts down. It does it all the time. It won't get even 1 minute into the restore. I noticed that it would do that before, but I didn't pay attention as to when specifically. I now seem to have a dead laptop. Please advise, Thanx in advance.

When i was using the restore disk with my laptop it was doing the same thing. What it was actually doing was overheating and shutting down. So i had to take it outside(it was winter) and it worked fine. Next day i bought a can of air, blew it out and its been fine.

When i said blew it out, i meant with a can of air i blew the dust out. Fan, vents, ect. Dust seems to cause comp to overheat. Anyway glad it worked.

I've kind of been reading up on this ACPI thing, and from what I gather ACPI is only for linux users....why then would I have it on my laptop?

ok, still need help. since my initial problem i have made some headway. i was able to load the OS. the problem still persists thou. i have narrowed it down to 2 problems. one: if it heats up it freezes or shuts down completely. a really good friend of mine bought me a cooling fan on one of his trips. it sits underneath the laptop, and works wonders. i could wathc movies, do just about anything and it worked fine. then i got an mp3 player and noticed the problem's still there. it seems to do it now when i have more than one USB perpheral connected to it. the cooling fan runs off one USB port, so if i connect the mp3 to transfer music after a couple minutes it freezes. i tried doing the same with a friend's Ipod and the same thing happens, not only when tranferring music, but when we try importing from a CD into itunes, it'll freeze or shutdown. i really love my laptop and would hate to get rid of it. but i'd really love to have one that works. the only other info i can provide is that i bought it off ebay andreceived that way. unfortunately i notice the problem til after the return/refund period had ended. please advise. thanx in advance for any and all help.
