I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten this problem...my friend has this problem with his laptop. Every time he turns it on the lights turn on and the screen is black, after 3 sec. everything shuts off. he says its not the battery. Hes called dell and they couldn't help him out. This has happend before and when he called Dell at that time they told him to go into safe mode and type in some stuff and it worked. But they couldn't help him this time. Any suggestions?

Dell has a big issue with overheating on some models. Has this machine evern been ran too hot? Has anyone ever taken it apart to cleant the heatsink? If so, the CPU may not have been reseated properly, or the ZIF lock on the CPU may not have been engaged. The lock requires a small screwdriver, and half a turn.

Has it been dropped? May the CPU dislodged. You should be able to find procedures for that specific model on how to remove the keyboard and then the CPU w/heatsink attached. Might as well remove it and clean it while the keyboard is off. Make sure the ZIF is unlocked when you put the CPU back in to prevent bent pins. Once back in, make sure you lock the ZIF. I forgot the ZIF lock once and had almost the same symptoms.

    Good luck.
