I'm new to this but im looking for some help. I have a Sony Vaio FS Laptop and a 15" Magnovox TV/Monitor.

I have no idea the type of cable i would need to connect from the laptop to the monitor.

Hi, I just hooked my HP laptop up to my tv for the first time this week.

I assume your laptop has an S-video slot somewhere along the sides, right? Assuming your tv also has a similar input, I think all you need is an S-video cable to connect the two. My tv only has the yellow/white/red inputs, so I had to by an S-vid-to-yellow adapter.

When you've got them hooked to each other, you have to tell your laptop to use the tv as the display. If you right-click on the desktop and go to the Display Properties window, there should be some options for selecting the primary display monitor and changing resolution, dpi, screen position, etc...

Also, there's probably some keystroke combo to switch it back and forth on the fly. On mine, Fn+F4 alternates between pc only, tv only, and both together.

I'm not positive how to do the sound since I'm just using headphones, but I think you run an audio cable from the laptop audio jack to the tv. There might be better ways though, not sure.

Hope this helps, let us know if you have more questions.

I think for the audio you could probably do with listening to the audio from the speakers on your laptop just to reduce the amount of cables strewn everywhere... but otherwise you can get audio cables I'm sure.

I actually just checked and there is a small jack cable... if your TV is marked it should have a music symbol (I forgot what they're called) and PC.
