My laptop one day picked up some type of internet signal, it came from a linksys router someone on my block has. I had internet all that day but the next day it didnt pick up the signal at all. So just yesterday i got myself a router and hooked it up. The router works for my main desktop but my laptop isnt picking up the signal. i have a hp laptop and a wiresless-G netgear router. i made sure the 2 were compatible with each other. how would i make my laptop pick the signal up from my newly installed router??

Most laptops have a button to disable the wireless network adaptor. To verify your wireless adaptor is enabled. For Windows XP:
    Click on "start"
    Click on "run"
Delete anything in the white box and type in ncpa.cpl
Your network connections window will open
Make sure your wireless adaptor does not say "disabled"
If it does, right click on it and click on enable.

I have a netgear router sometimes it mess up. go to the computer that works type in routerlogin.net it will come up with a logon box the default logon is username: admin, and the password is password. once into the router settings go to encyption. If you have wpa switch it to wep or you can change the ssid or turn the mode to g only and then click apply. (try only one at a time) it will take a minute to refersh and then you should see your network.
