i have Windows xp and my system wont load into windows.

the error message that comes up at the start is

    PXE-E61 MEDIA TEST FAILURE,CHECK CABLE
    PXE-MOF: EXITING BROADCOM PXE ROM

    i have a dell inspiron 1501.

as far as i know it didnt get a fall or a knock.

    what i have tried.....

1.i have tried changing the boot sequence

2.pressing f8 to get into safe mode i get the f8 menu but it wont go into safe mode.

3.i have tried putting in the windows xp disc and booting the cd to repair files did a reboot and still thr same

4.i have taken out thr ram and replaced it.

5.i have taken out the hard drive to look for phyisical damage but cant see any.

6.i have tried hitting it seversl times( got that great advice from other forums worked for some people amazingly)

in the bios setup the hard drive is detacted and reads fine.

at this stage i can only see 2 options.

buy a new hard drive and if that doesent work then it must be the motheboard.

    Any Advice would be helpful?

    Thanks

can you attach the dell hd to another pc to pull off your data & have other pc do a scandisk on dell hd? that is how i found out the a customer's hd has bad spots which caused windows not to bootup properly.

that error if correct has to do with your netcard wanting to boot the system thru the bios. go into the bios & disable\remove it from the boot sequence but not disable it in the peripherials(sp?) or might not be able to get on the net.
