I have recently upgraded from Nero 6 reloaded to the New Nero 7 Premium reloaded (that is a mouthful). I have not had any problems in the past with Showtime playing anything I asked of it (Nero 6 version), however the new version refuses to play standard shop bought DVD movies! Whenever I insert a DVD into the player, the following error message appears: "Unexpected DVD error". I have experimented and found that the player can play the individual files, however it will not play from the ifo file (either from disc or hard drive folder). To circumvent some of the possible suggestions, I have already uninstalled the entire program, run the Nero Clean-tool rebooted and also run Registry Mechanic, prior to rebooting and reinstalling the entire program. No luck. Same error when trying to play a simple DVD. All other functionality of the suite seems to work without a hitch. Any ideas?
Do your DVDs play using Windows Media player? When you first insert a DVD, does ShowTime come up as a possible selection for playing the file? I don't suppose there is any type of Region situation?
Saltgrass, Thanks for your reply. Yes the DVDs play on Windows media player, and yes Showtime is one of the options when I insert a disc into the machine. I select Showtime, the program starts to operate, and then the error comes up. It even starts to adjust the screen size to the appropriate aspect immediately prior to the error message. Region wise, one of the discs was region free, the others region 4. The DVD players are set to region 4. Thanks again.
With Nero-7.5.1.1 I had no problem with Nero Showtime. Updating to Nero-7.5.7.0 I had an Unexpected DVD error with every DVD with Nero Showtime. Deinstalled Nero-7.5.7.0 and installed Nero-7.5.1.1 and now no problems. For me it is clearly a bug in the latest Nero Showtime.
bob1324, Thanks for that information. I wish the people at Nero would take note of people like yourself and fix the showtime error or delete the latest version. Unfortunately when I updated from Nero 6 (wish I had used the demo before buying Nero 7), it was up to 7.5.7.0. I do not know how to get a hold of the official version of a previous update, as they appear to remove them from the Nero site. I am still in an exchange with Nero techsupport, who have now requested a copy of my 'infotool' printout as well as a screen dump of the actual error. If only the update was in separate pieces as they were with previous versions of Nero. I also wonder if this has something to do with them making this update compatable with the yet to be completed Windows Vista.
@drno68, Try this, uninstall your current version of Nero, run this clean tool, http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then you can install to version 7.2.7.0 from here. http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?1493 or 7.5.1.1 from here http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?1584 [bold]just click on the green arrow[/bold] good luck with Nero...you'll need it.
I haven't seen any bugs with the new Nero 7.5.7.0 yet, so far all Nero's applications (Nero ShowTime, Nero Recode, Nero Vision, Nero Exres, Burning Rom and CD-DVD Speed) has been doing their job beautifully for me. Am I the only lucky one that doesn't have any bugs? Or is there someone (few) out there that are happy (and lucky) with Nero too?
I must be one of the lucky ones! My 7.5.7.0 works as well as alkohol's does. One minor glitch is that when I use Wave Editor (rarely), under the tools menu there is an equalizer that opens to "overfill" my application. I can't see the O.K. and Cancel buttons on the bottom of the app. Otherwise mine also works well. Some folks mention the lack of Nero's tech support. I brought my minor problem up to the Nero folks and the replies were numerous ending with them filing a bug report on it. It amazes me there are so many problems with some people's installations....not just with Nero, but with many of the various ripping and burning software progs out there. I wonder if their systems are so loaded with junk hiding in nooks and crannies that there are conflicts with most any app they try.
@drno68 You won't get much help from Nero! Once they get your money they don't care. They don't really have time, since half their upgrades are buggy.
I am currently recieving help from NERO, and must say that the service seems very thorough. I will keep the thread posted of any solution that is forthcoming. I have passed on the details mentioned by BOB1324 regarding issues with 7.5.7.0 that he also experienced.
garmoon ~ ain't that the truth. I bought Nero 6 a while back and it wasn't accepting the license key they sent me. They asked me to confirm my license key with them and they verified that it was legitimate and that was the end of the support I got. I wrote back to the several times but not once did they respond. I eventually uninstalled everything and installed it again from scratch (new downloads and all that stuff) and it worked but no thanks to their shitty support team!
Nero support have come back with a fix for this problem pending the next update. In the options menu, you go into 'DVD General', 'Bookmarks editor' and select the 'Microsoft DVD Navigator'. This solves the problem to a point. You can play DVD movies using the player after acknowledging the "HD DTS Audio" error. The program thinks that every DVD played is HD and thus produces the error. Also a glitch to be fixed in the next update. I hope this helps others.
I used the solution as described by drno68 , and indeed this simple change to microsoft navigator did the trick. Not very professional of NERO.
Hello, I have the same problem but i cannot change to Windows DVD navigator. There stands NERO DVD NAVIGATOR ans that cannot be changed because it is greyd out. I try this in STOP and PLAY modus. Please Help
I have the same problem -- my new Pioneer driver came with Nero Home essentials, and I was stupid enough to guess that the reason DVD's weren't playing was because I needed to upgrade to the full version (which I did -- guess there'e no hope of a refund). I will try the fix mentioned above,....BTW so far i can do everything with my new drive except watch a DVD
adriaense, Following on from your message, I down loaded Nero 7.5.9.0a to my system. I did this, foolishly assuming that the problems identified with Showtime would have been fixed in the update. Having downloaded the update and installed on my system, I tried to play a DVD with Showtime. I received the same error that I mentioned back in the first post of this thread. OK, I thought, looks like they haven't fixed it yet, so I went into the bookmark editor to change it to the Microsoft Navigator, only to find the selection greyed out. I have since uninstalled 7.5.9.0a and reinstalled 7.5.7.0, and reapplied the navigator change in that version. What version are you using?
I have installed version 7.5.9.0a, and get the same error as well. Weird that different users with the same version have been getting different results. The bookmarks editor changes mentioned above don't work in this version either. The relevant area is greyed out with no option to change.
It would appear that Nero have removed the ability to apply the fix that they supplied in the versions following 7.5.7.0. I can only suggest that you obtain a copy of that version (7.5.7.0), and apply the fix that I posted. There is a post further back in this thread that suggests a site for downloading previous versions of Nero. I hope this helps
