I have read that plasma gives less blur during things like hockey and other sports, compared to LCD. For those that have LCD, is it really that bad? Is plasma that much better for sports? Should that be my deciding factor in buying an HDTV?

I will never buy a Plasma no matter what, since you have to replace the bulbs.. and its way too expensive. Plus i am a gamer so plasma is out for me since they get burn in images and lcd tv's do not burn in ( ghost images )i havent seen really no difference in plasma and lcd in blurryness with fast moving images.. if ya have kids that watch alot of cartoons or whatever.. that stay on the same channel ALL day long.. then be aware about those small logos in the corners day in and day out... they will eventually burn in..
I agree, I've always preferred LCD's over plasma. Plus Plasma's give off high reflections because of the screen. If you can afford it, go with an LED LCD, I have one and IMO the picture quality and especially the colour is way better than Plasmas and traditional LCDs. Plus it will save your energy bill too. Make sure you look for an LCD that has at least 120Hz refresh rate too.
my lcd tv is only 720p in resolution and i have no trouble seeing it.and my eyesight is the pits.baseball,hockey,football,all clear as a bell.
If you buy a proper plasma and burn it in correctly you won't have the problems mentioned. I have 3 LCD TVs (Sony, JVC and Samsung) and compared to my plasma, they are nowhere near as good, not just sports but any fast action picture, the picture does blur when the camera sweeps in football or golf etc.... If you get one of the latest plasmas you don't have the issues of screen image retention found on earlier models. I use mine with an Xbox360 and the pictures are clear and full of colour, there is no lag and no image retention, I don’t use it more than a few hours at a time though for gaming. As for watching TV and films, it takes TV to another level (no LCD can get to) I however invested in a good TV, and you get what you pay for. Watching football or F1 on the plasma is a totally better experience from what I’ve seen on an LCD. My brother has the OLED Samsung which has a great picture and good blacks, but it isn’t as good as my plasma (even he agreed with that when he compared both) The only way to really make your mind up, is to look at a demo of what is in your price range, boring as it may be, I spent 4 months looking a TVs and getting proper demos with SD/HD feeds to make a proper informed decision.
There's no bulbs to replace and Panasonic plasmas have proved to be some of the most reliable TVs ever made. Any blur you may see on a plasma is due to the source programming, on LCDs it's due to the technology. Also remember that with LCDs the viewing angle is very narrow if you want the ideal picture. The numbers they post are not even close. Only +/- 10 degrees off center (that's about one foot at a viewing distance of 7 - 8 feet) is all it takes to change the picture and impact the colors.
You can't compare all LCD's to all Plasma's A poor plasma won't be as good as a quality LCD. No one should be buying anything within looking at it first and comparing it to what else is around. People that just buy TVs on other peoples reviews leave themselves open to disappointment. Both technologies have good and bad points, Plasma's do need more care IMO, but a good one will deliver a better picture, LCD's are pretty much hang and forget ideal if you don't want any hassle, but still suffer from less clarity, image smear in fast action and less deep blacks in normal use.(even the Oled TVs only give true blacks in scenes of total darkness - which is normally never) There are countless LCD Vs Plasma debates on line, none of them ever agree, so this one is never going to do that either. As to whether the image blur is that bad on LCD in sport, IMO it is, I always watch sport on the Plasma, I'm lucky enough to be able to compare from one TV to the other and can see the difference clearly, but that is on two TV's with a £1500+ price difference, so it's not a truely fair comparison.
I have to agree on one part though, most of the newer Plasmas are pretty dam good, and in some cases better than LCD's. Pioneer's KURO displays are still one of the best TV's out there IMO. Finding some of the best Plasma's and LCD's, and comparing them will be hard to determine which one is "best". When you're on a budget, it's even harder. They all have their cons and pros. I've just always been more biased with LCD's since the first Plasma's came out. Best way to determine which TV to get is to go to a store and compare it yourself, as supposed to just reading reviews and going with which one is most popular.
You are right, but you must ask for the remote control, if it isnt already there, cause as it is known, the stores set to Vivid profile the Tv's that they want to sell more. You know what i mean i trust.
