Samsung 50" Plasma HDTV SAM FPT5084 Samsung 52" LCD HDTV SAM LNT5265F These are the 2 tvs ive been looking at i already purchased the plasma and i have to say its very pretty but i was playing a game the other night for about 45 min maybe less and i get a slight image retention now i find this very annoying and im very anal about my screen being clear would a plasma not be a smart choice for me, i dont even understand why they would even make a tv that does this kind of ghosting after a minimal amount of time, i do understand the image does go away after a few hours of something else playing, but isnt that kinda lame? please give me some feed back i got 30 days to take it back for the 52 inch lcd for about 200 more dollars tell me what u think and if uve had any experience on these models.
Yea, bad idea. This is called burn in. Supposedly this isn't suppose to be a problem anymore, but it looks like it still is. Usually the tv needs to be broken in before any heavy game play. I think the average usage before playing games is like 100 hours or so. I would have gone with an LCD or DLP/LCOS if you play lots of games.
I work in TV and we have bought 3 50" Plasmas and about 10 42" and 10 20" LCD's. the plasmas were used about 4 to 5 hours a day and are both gone after only 3 years, the LCDs are on 24/7 and after 3 years are still working fine with only a little burn in on a couple of the older smaller models that have a static image on them. This led to me going with LCD at home.
Plasmas are considered old technology now. They burn in, they exponentially get dimmer. LCD is the way to go.
Go with the LCD, plasmas are nice at first, but they don't seem to have staying power. I have a sharp aquos 1080p LCD and it's got a beautiful picture. You won't regert it
Between the two TVs you have there the Samsung LCD would be the better choice as it is better after calibration. But I will say this, the Pioneer 50" 1080p KURO plasma is the best TV (non front-projector) on the market and will soon not be made anymore after this year. Virtually all magazines and J.D. power and associates will back up this claim. Regardless of how you all feel about plasma TV the facts are that they do last just as long as LCDs do (if not longer). As for burn-in instead of taking your tv out of the box and leaving it on bright mode for long periods of time turn the brightness down or get it professionally calibrated. Also as goodswipe said TVs regardless of type need to be burned-in for at least 100 hrs before professional calibration and/or intense use. After that just use common since. If your not using your tv turn it off. You will not only extend the life of your tv but also lower your energy bill. Ced
