OK. I have been having trouble with Shrink, I am burning at least one coaster for every 5 usable discs (it usually writes a lead-in and then pops out, burn failed). My burner is new, a Plextor 716UF. I upgraded from Nero 6.0 to Nero 6.6 just in case it was the burning software (and I have not tried a burn since). I am not sure if my media is junk, but before I buy new discs, I heard something somewhere about updating "firmware". I do not know what that is. SO, what is firmware, and how do I check for "updates" for my specific burner? I want to continue using Shrink if I can because De Crypter says it is only for discs under a certain size and no disc I try to burn is EVER under that size. So, please help!
Firmware is basically a set of instructions for your drive on how to handle different discs. You can check for updates from your drive manufacturers website. Nero Info Tool can tell you the current firmware version installed on your drive. Failed burns are not caused by Shrink. Shrink has no burning abilities at all on it's own. It does have the ability to detect and automatically open 3 different burning apps to burn the output files to disc. They are: Nero, DVD Decrypter, and CopytoDVD. By default Shrink is set to choose Nero. *if you post your nero log, be sure to remove the serial number from it. It'll start with 1A2 and go on...
found my firmware update, thank you! My latest try was successful, when or if I get the next error I will post it. I was using HP DVD+R and Memorex DVD+RW. But I have also used Fuji and Sony and had the same result in the past. If I am unsucessful again, I will let you know, thank you! Beth
*moved from DVD Shrink forum* glad you got it all worked out, try to post in the appropriate forum next time A firmware questions certainly doesn't belong in the Shrink forum.
