I need help on Letterboxing, what program should I use and how should I do it? I just burned a DVD, but my TV doesnt show all of the picture, I figured I needed to Letterbox it, but how do I do it? -Thanks, Ayu
AyuMi, Difficult to understand exactly what you are asking. I'm assuming you are new to this whole thing, so I don't mean to be talking down to you if I'm explaining things you already know. There is no choice in any backup software to "make" a movie into a "letterbox". The software can only make an exact copy of the original DVD as is. I'm sure your copy is fine since you said it plays. You just need to change the output settings of your DVD player to project the image correctly on your TV. The movie you backed up was either Widescreen Anamorphic or Widescreen Matted which is often referred to as "letterboxed" as you say. For your information: "letterbox" is an older term which the home video marketing-idiots coined for the VHS tape market to try to describe a Widescreen VHS release to a public they thought was too dumb to understand that the movie on the tape was presented in the original "wide" cinamatic aspect ratio rather than a butchered, cropped-off, square, Pan&Scan image ratio (as you can tell, I hate Pan&Scan). Anyway thank God the term letterbox is FINALLY falling into dis-use. Good riddance! As I said, I'm sure your burn is fine. I assume you have a "square" type TV. You have to use your player's remote control go into the "setup" or "choices" menu of your dvd player's on-screen menu system and choose the "widescreen-output-to-square TV" setting. Then you will get the whole cinamatic aspect ratio horozontally across your screen with black space above and below since you are fitting a wide rectangle image into a square space. Check out the owner's manual that came with your DVD player for more information. Or go to the manufacturer's website and download the manual if you lost it.
