Levels of Compression in DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta 5

Im not sure whats going on but there is nothing in DVD Shrink 3.0 Beta 5 for me to change the levels of compression ... I open DVD Shrink, Click on "Open Disk", Click "ok" when it asks which drive I want to use. In "Streams" under the "Video" folder I can select four options and they are ... no compression, auto compression, ratio, and still pictures ... Where is my Level 1-10 that I can play with the to make the dvd fit on a dvd-r ... If I click "re-author" it just opens up a new DVD Shrink window thats exactly the same as I have open. What do I do now?

Just drag over the bits that you want.

 

F1118, v3.0 beta does not use levels anymore.
If you select "Ratio", the blue bar that appears is actually a slider that can be dragged to the left or right.

when dvd shrink has finished analizing your dvd the compresion levels should be set at automatic,that way your dvd will fit onto a blank dvd , dont bother messing with the compresion levels as the quality of the ripped dvd will be xllent , its what i do

 

Some dvd's are too big after I analyze them. Some of them I have the option of removing some of the extras but some theres nothing I can do.

 

I have this same problem. I will often end up with a DVD with all the extras stripped that will be just barely bigger than 4.7gig and Shrink won't give me the option to reduce it smaller so it will fit.

This happens all the time on longer movies, and sometimes on the short ones too.

 

In these rare cases I'm afraid your only options are either to shrink the files twice, or use re-author to do a movie-only backup.

 

How do you know they are too big. What file size is outputted after the compression stage?

 

I am talking about 're-authoring' I take just the movie file into a new project etc... and still the SHRINK won't let me shrink it to a size that will fit.

Plus, it seems completely random how much compression it will allow.

I know it is too big because the final output is larger than 4.7 gigs, and I knew it would be because there was still red in the space bar as well as the total MB count was too large.

I am talking about the movie only backup and I didn't think about shrinking it twice, I will try that, but it sure makes for a lot of work.

Also, this is happening on about 1 out of 3 disks...

 

This does seem like a lot.
I have done a fair number of backups with Shrink and have never run into that problem.
Would you mind listing the DVDs you have experienced this problem with?

Some dvd's have to be copied using two dvd's. They are still too large even with compression.

On the compression pane look for the option 'RATIO'. Drag its value slider to increase the compression/lower size.
Note: as you do this to extras you will notice the compression of the main movie reducing, resulting in a better Q xfer.
