I have been trying to get a lemark x4850 to work with ubutnu 14 lts for 2 days now. My bosses laptop HDD died and she could not find the windows 7 disc and the key is worn off. I offered to install a new HDD and install a new OS for her( told her and showed her what I would be installing, and she loves it, she can do everything that she could do in windows, but much faster now in linux( watching videos, netflix, typing, ect...). recently she wanted to print a paper and asked me to hook up her printer for her. I have been searching just about everywhere for how to hook up this printer and it seems it is a dead end. I dont want to tell her that he printer is no good just because Lexmark seems to be lazy with no linux support. is there a generic way to get this printer working with ubuntu ?
it looks like she might sol. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/483120/setting-up-printer-for-ubuntu-1204/
There are various methods.. some more buggy/inconvenient than others.. without that specific printer and os I can't give you more than some pointers.. start here http://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...ter-on-linux-with-only-windows-driver-707449/ Also there is this option.. more for print servers.. but same technique works for desktop machines.. CUPS doesn't discriminate http://www.geekyprojects.com/ubuntu/getting-windows-printer-drivers-from-cups/
