I've had a LG 4167b burner for a couple of months and love it. I'm getting another in this week to replace an old NEC DVD-ROM drive. Hopefully simple question, as I've not messed around with hardware yet: Can I just unplug the old NEC drive and replace with the new burner and have XP "autodetect" it and/or do I need to go into XP device manager and do something(like disable/uninstall old drive)?Like I said, haven't messed with hardware, so help would be appreciated...Thank you.

    J66 ,
Simple answer- YES. You might though need to make sure the new burners firmware is UTD

Make sure jumpers on back of the new drive are set the same as were on the drive you are removing.

I'll definitely set the jumpers same as old drive, but do I have to use XP device manager to uninstall or disable the old NEC drive BEFORE I power down and physically remove it? And after I install the new drive does XP "autodetect"? Just wanted to make sure, and thanks for the help...

Prob won't matter. Go ahead and uninstall the old drive as this will do no harm, and yes windows will find the new hardware. The LG issue is another matter. I would go to www.newegg.com and get an OEM deal on a NEC, BenQ, Pioneer, or Liteon. Can prob get any of these for $40 or less and free shipoping deals come and go. Specials change daily. My last LG drive died at age 13 months, just after warranty expiration.
