I purchased an LG-GSA 4167B for the DVD RAM capabilities and attempted to install it in my COMPAQ 6029US, replacing the CD ROM drive. The existing drives had shared one IDE and I set the jumper for CS, as the original drives had been, and swapped out the new LG burner for the CD ROM drive. Once I did that, I received a "blue screen of death" informing me that Windows was shutting down to avoid damaging the computer. I was finally able to install the LG drive by reinstalling the CD ROM in place of the Pioneer DVR-104 writer. The new drive is playing back well with both DVD ROMs and RAMs and I will test burning capabilities tonight. Still, I would like to be able to keep both DVD drives installed. Is there a way to do this?
OK, I've got this problem licked. Once I decided that the jumpers shouldn't be "CS" but should be set one for master and one for slave, everything was cool. I now have my new LG drive set up for master, the older Pioneer as slave and it actually works. Kind of. Now if I could only get XP to recognize the new drive as a burner instead of a DVD-RAM/CD-ROM Drive everything would be good. At least with the Pioneer drive reinstalled I can burn -R/-RWs again. And with the LG I can watch RAMS from my Panny E85. Still, I want it all. I know that I'm not supposed to need any drivers if my OS is XP, but I still think the actual drivers (my OEM came without the disc)would be helpful here. Of course, I'm a newbie and I could be all wet.
whats the difference between dvd-ram instead of dvd burner cuz i have the same dvd writer LG GSA-4167b but it says dvd-ram and i cant seem to burn anything is this why? because its 'dvd-ram' or something?
Most DVD burners don't do RAM, just+-R/RW. The LG is supposed to burn all three. Mine burns CD-R, but looks at blank DVD media as CD-Rs too. LG's on-line support says that I have a WIN-RAM driver conflict and referred me to http://www.bhacorp.com . Their web page no longer offers online help and I didn't see a driver that listed the 4167b as a supported drive. I may call LG [(800)243-0000] and speak with someone.
Hey folks, I've got the LG 4167B as well and when you load it onto your comp it labels it a 'RAM' drive because it can all types of media including RAM types. So for some reason they label it 'RAM'. But it works just the same as any other burner. It's okay if it's recognized as a RAM drive..no biggie. Just pop a DVD-R in and give er a whirl
My problem is that my drive won't burn an R, RW, or RAM. I suspect I need a new version of Nero, mine won't give me the option of choosing the new drive. I have to choose either the "virtual drive" on my hard drive, or my older Pioneer drive. The drive does play everything, although it's a lot slower at recognizing disc than the Pioneer, and it will record to CD-R.
Best way to check if it's the burner or software is to check it on another computer if you can borrow a buddy's for a sec. Try that and if it shows up properly then you've narrowed it down. I'm using Nero 6.6 and it recognized the drive no problem.
It was my version of Nero. I burned a DVD-R using DVD Decrypter without a problem. The burning speeds were acceptable for the media as well. I also burned a DVD-RAM which plays back on the LG burner fine, but my Panasonic DVR-E85H reads the disc as "unformatted". DVD-RAMs burned on the Panny play fine through the LG, though. Since DVD-R and-RW burned on the LG are read as DVD-Video by the Panny, the RAM format problem is no biggie.
I also bought this 4167B and have a similar problem. It plays DVDs but will not recognize -R media, blank or written. It works fine in a friends pc. Properties says device is working. Am I missing a driver or is it a config/windows problem. Daytek AMD 2000+ with XP sp2. Any ideas?
It was at rev 11 new, I updated to 12, and now there is a rev 13 which I installed. It's not working properly on my pc but it works fine on my buddy's who normally runs an older LG 4x burner. It came preloaded with drivers but I'm wondering if there is something I'm missing or it just won't interface properly with my pc.
I think its a problem with windows I got a LG-4167B and it worked fine but not with nero but then I used another burning program and It worked fine with my DVD-RW but I got a pack of DVD-R and Windows said they were CD's and it started saying the LG-4167b was just a cd Drive but I got that figured out and so I think windows not realy recognizing the DVD-R
