I have recently looked at these forums for an answer to my problem. Unfortunatley, the similar threads that i've looked at did not help me. I currently have an LG 32X 10X 40X burner but the max it will burn at is 16X. I have done some diagnostics using CD speed with the same burn results. I used to get 8X burn speeds until i activated DMA for my cd drives which doubled my burn speed. LG has no firmware for this CD and i use both Roxio and Nero with the same results. Why doesn't my burner burn faster than 16X. I don't burn audio cd's very often (understanding that audio needs to burn at slower speeds) but data cd's should burn at max right?. Can someone help me?

Sounds like you're on the right track to troubleshooting with no results.

What was the source? Another drive or did you "rip" to the harddrive first before burning?

I usually burn from the hard drive. The test i did with CD Speed gave me a constand 16X burn through the whole test. there was no going up or down. I also use Taiyo Yurden CD's with 32X compatability. I have the results saved if anyone wants to see.

Does it happen with every CD-R media?

Well, I did find the problem, it was the CD's I was using. I guess i will never buy cheap bulk CD's claiming to be 32X compatable. I've tested a 48X Verbatim CD and the burn hit 32X. Thanks for those who gave the time to try to help me.
