I recently installed an LG GSA-4040B drive on my machine; it can write CD-RW just fine. Then I decided to test it on a DVD-RW (Memorex P/N 3202 5520) to avoid expensive coasters in case of trouble, and I always got ATAPI "05" errors. I thought it was due to the software (B's Gold 5, included with the drive) so I installed Nero. It did not fix the problem. Next step: I upgraded the firmware to version A302 (the drive shipped with the A300) and installed the Service Pack 4 on my W2K OS. By the way: the burner is the master on the secondary IDE channel. The secondary slave in an LG DVD-ROM drive. I even tried to burn a DVD-RW after disconnecting the slave drive. I tried two blank discs. NOTHING! It simply refuses to write. Does anybody have a clue on what I should do?
Hey, your misfortune is actually a gift. Return it. I have the dvd burner, it sucks. All the movies skip, hardly any media works. Get your money back.
paperino, tango99 is right, take your drive back, had one of the lg drives did not get a single good burn out of it.Took mine back and got the pioneer 106 no more problems.
Thank you, tango and swagman. Saturday I am going to the store and have it checked. I thing the Plextor is a bit expensive ($269.99 CDN), but the Pioneer DVR-106 ($160.99 CDN) costs just a few bucks more than the LG (@ $148.99 CDN). In case I have to stick to the LG brand, do you know anything about the new GSA-4081B? thanks again guys...
