How long would the life of a burned DVD be compared to a commercial DVD and how much would the type of media used affect this? Thanks

i've got dvds that i've backed up that have been about a year.. and quality media does matter. if you buy cheap media.. you'll have issues not too far down the line.

Quality media and 4X burn speed make all the difference. I've got some memorex burns around that are hardly a year old and are useless. I tried rescuing a couple discs a friend at work bought off e-bay that were burned on memorex (made in India, in this case), and they are practically unusable. Use REAL Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim datalife plus and burn at 4X and longevity shouldn't be an issue. Check out the Dvd-Media section here for a buttload of good info.
