    If you have a modem, power it down and turn it on (ie, unplug the power supply and plug it back in while the PC is powered up)

    Still no connection...

    Start>>>Run>>> type 'cmd'

    at the prompt, type 'ipconfig'...

    If all you see is a bunch of zeroes.zeroes.zeros

    then at the new prompt type;

    'ip release' followed by at the next prompt 'ip renew'.

    Close the command prompt and try to go online...

    If still no connectivity, you'll need your roommate to contact His/her ISP (internet service provider)

    Also the WinSocks may need a reset, but the ISP will walk you through that.

    Cheers,

    Try just deleting the connection in network connections @ reboot.

    It should autoreconfigure correctly.

    Also, make sure your line is still plugged in...and, if you can, steal your roomate's LAN cable just long enough to plug it in to your plugs/modem and see if that fixes the problem.
